For me - I see the Iranians are potential natural allies:
1. They are very aware of their glorious pre-Islamic history
2. They resent Arabs for this
3. Many have crossed the Rubicon to hating Islam and the mosques are empty most Fridays
4. There is only need for a push (probably little, probably not so little) to push them away from Islam.
This was the land of Cyrus the great, who freed the Jews.
If Trump went gung-ho, he would keep the Ayatollahs in power - like when the Russians reluctantly sided with Stalin when he played the “great patriotic war” card.
But Trump didn’t do this.
I didn’t and don’t like the President’s personality - but as a President he is one of the best the USA has ever had. He made promises and he keeps them.

Just to add to the above - I support President Trump for re-election. I wouldn’t grab a beer with him, like I would with Dubya, but I would and do respect his effectiveness and strategizing. The USA is blessed to have him as President
Iran is pretty much a one crop economy - oil/gas exports.
They manufacture little of what the consume, and have to import food. The economy is overwhelmingly controlled by the Revolutionary Guards Corps (Pasdaran) and large trusts (Bonyads), which were traditional islamic charitable foundations, now perverted into large holding companies for corrupt mullahs. It is a highly rigged, unproductive system.
The Government is overwhelmingly funded by oil revenues. The last round of sanctions, imposed in May, are designed to take their legal oil exports down to zero.
It is likely going to get a lot worse there, as reserves run out. No need to fight the regime, when it is already bleeding out.
Maduro in Venezuela too. Chinese communists heading that way too. North Korea is under hard sanctions too.
President Trump has just stopped pretending that those regimes are OK, or equally valid, or whatever other Leftist bull crap.
They are cut off, and going broke.

The Iranian population is the most pro-US in the whole region, except for Israel. They are prisoners of that dictatorship.
President Trump is brash, but he knows how things really work, and he is a loyal American, willing to make things work in our interest - instead of selling us out for his own interest (like so many others).
I knew Iranians before the Revolution, and I had a high regard for them. They were smart, modern, had a good sense of humor, and were often generally attractive people.
I knew some who were forced to go home when the Revolution happened, and they looked pretty trapped and sad to me.
Damn Jimmy Carter and his ilk.
adding and subtracting zeros on a worthless, failing currency never works ... and anything like that that takes two years to implement will be mooted into total irrelevancy before final implementation ...
