I grew up in a house without air conditioning. We sweltered in summer. That's just the way it was. Summers during high school I worked as a greens keeper on a golf course, out in the sun all day. A "good day" was when we had a thunderstorm. Now I have air conditioning in my old age. I'm grateful for it.

I grew up with swamp coolers in Arizona, they worked pretty well until the humidity went up. During the monsoon, all they did was make the heat more unbearable. My grandparents had air conditioning and we really enjoyed visiting them in the humid days of summer.
