Serious people have been very concerned with the military implications of China’s modernization for 20 years.

China is rapidly becoming a serious military power while the US continues to become hollowed out.

Please study current US capabilities. China has one aircraft carrier. We have over twenty. Our tanks are virtually indestructible. We have ships that can shoot down ballistic missiles. We have a strong mix of 4th and 5th generation fighter aircraft. Our military helicopters are very powerful. Our Army and Marine Corps are full of combat veterans, whereas China hasn’t really fought a war since 1953.

The way you end up in a war is that you lose deterrence. One side side gets the idea that, despite the unequal forces or capabilities, that the other side does not have the will to fight. WWII Japan had seen America remain neutral while Britain was getting whipped by Germany and concluded that America didn’t have the will to help even its best ally. They concluded that if they gave America a bloody nose and caused casualties that America would sue for peace. The same thing happened when Argentina decided to seize the Falklands.

It is not strength that causes war. It is the perception that the strength will not be used. We are fortunate that Obama didn’t get us into a war. Perhaps the most dangerous thing proposed recently is that Congress would forbid the President from first use of nuclear weapons.

People just don’t grasp the cause of war. It isn’t a desire to obtain something that can’t be gotten through negotiation. It is that the stronger side has lost deterrence.

If an armed conflict broke out between Beijing and Washington, China’s hi-tech ballistic missiles would likely cripple the United States’ military bases and naval fleet across the Western Pacific region within hours, a new report by Australia-based researchers has said.

Wasn’t that the Japanese plan in 1941? How did that turn out?

China may have the desire to war with the US, and they may have enough capability begin such a war, but do they have the resources to maintain the conflict for a long period?

Are the Chinese able to attack America’s heartland?

I believe the US has the capability to attack anywhere in China.

The Chinese has two aircraft carriers? How many American submarines are tailing those carriers at this time? If war came those two carriers would be at the bottom of them sea withing hours.

Do the Chinese have enough fuel to maintain a prolong attack?

Do the Chinese have enough food?

I am not an expert on China’s capabilities but I don’t believe we would have to kill their military, only destroy their ports, and destroy their refineries.

Having the desire to hurt your enemy and having the capability are two different things. So the question is, do the Chinese have the ability to win a armed conflict with the US?

Three Gorges Dam is their weak link and can be taken out (no matter what they say) by ONE of our “boomer” with a couple of hits!

Seems to me I remember reading that China had some difficulty with missile guidance systems. This was back in the early 90s.

I wonder what, beginning with the initials WJBC, may have happened to change that? Hmmmmm????

China was conqureed and occupied for a very long time. China is now assuring the world that condition will not occur again.

There is a difference in security and delusions of world conquest

What would Japan and South Korea if China rained downed missiles on US bases in their countries?

And the Chinese Navy and Air Force would cease to exist within moments after that.

We should be more concerned with Chico’s missiles hitting Silicon Valley and our bases on the west coast. A couple of hits in Seattle and San Fran will start the cries of surrender.

The US has not “seen” much war since the 1870’s. People would be shocked to see the Golden Gate Bridge blocking the harbor.
