If an armed conflict broke out between Beijing and Washington, Chinas hi-tech ballistic missiles would likely cripple the United States military bases and naval fleet across the Western Pacific region within hours, a new report by Australia-based researchers has said.
With China making rapid technological advancements and sharpening its hard power, the report urged the US and regional allies such as Australia and Japan to overhaul military investment and deployment plans, or face the prospect of American military primacy being undermined by the Asian power.

If the carriers had been in port, it would have turned out far better for Japan. Sheer luck that it didn’t, not anything the US Navy did.
Should also point out that the US Navy was in a better place in terms of skills then as opposed to now. Right now our latest designs have to be towed back to port and our older designs have crew that run them into merchant ships.
It takes care of enforcing the no smoking regulations all by itself. :P
It takes us nine years to build one carrier - and there’s only one shipyard that can do it.
Compare that to 1942-43, when we built and launched almost 100 carriers of various types.
China may have the desire to war with the US, and they may have enough capability begin such a war, but do they have the resources to maintain the conflict for a long period?
Are the Chinese able to attack America’s heartland?
I believe the US has the capability to attack anywhere in China.
The Chinese has two aircraft carriers? How many American submarines are tailing those carriers at this time? If war came those two carriers would be at the bottom of them sea withing hours.
Do the Chinese have enough fuel to maintain a prolong attack?
Do the Chinese have enough food?
I am not an expert on China’s capabilities but I don’t believe we would have to kill their military, only destroy their ports, and destroy their refineries.
Having the desire to hurt your enemy and having the capability are two different things. So the question is, do the Chinese have the ability to win a armed conflict with the US?
On top of that, we already had several designs on the books for carriers that could be quickly mass produced. Among many other classes.
As it is now, we dumped all our eggs in the LCS design basket and since that turned out to be a massive failure, we’re having to address our desperate need for seagoing designs by buying other countries’ off the shelf frigate designs (because we don’t have any frigate designs ready to go and it would take most of the decade before we did.) We also don’t have a viable alternative to the cancelled Zumwalt class. Which doesn’t have a working main gun.
The U.S. will surrender to Mexico if any of any of those dimocraps I've seen win the presidency..
Some would say that Vietnam didn’t have the ability to win an armed conflict with the US.
How did that work out again?
With Google's help China will, sooner or later, conquer the world..
We don't have 20 aircraft carriers. CVN is the current designation for a nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
Please study current US naval forces.
Your credibility just went out the window.

And one more question:
What the hell is China going to gain from it?
Surrender? A leftist administration would probably offer it to the Chinese without their even having to ask.
How many people in America speak Mandarin?
How many in China speak English?
Arguably, the two nations had completely different motivations.
We were there, away from home, taking one side on a two-sided conflict.
They on the other hand, were fighting for their own homeland.
Anyway that was a long, long, long time ago now. I myself firmly believe, it is time for America to start supporting Vietnam more, and stop building up China.
And bring businesses back to America, once again.
STOP building up China, for Pete’s sake.

I think, at this point in time, with the swamp and democrats acting as they do, I fear our own government more then China..
On this matter I don’t disagree with you. Thing is, you can’t say that ability to weather a war is a good indicator as to who will win and Vietnam is a good example of why.
A *lot* in both cases these days.
Hegemony over most of Asia.
Trump is correct, his grand daughter speaks mandarin,
Lets talk..
The Chinese and Koreans hate the Japanese and with good reason, We fought them all, Now the Japanese are like this harmless fuzzball and the Germans are some schnitzel.
