Slavery was the state of the world. It was the English-speaking world that put an end to it. This is anathema to those using Critical Theory to tear down Western Civ as a prelude to Collectivist Totalitarianism.

And all the other countries at the time were free?

They may as well hang a Harris 2020 sign out front.

LOL! Yes, please - PLEASE - keep running on that platform: "America sucks and all of you suck and should hate America as much as we do!"

Golly, the demoncraps have 2020 in the bag with that winning message.

I’m sure the NYT 1619 project has also highlighted that little Civi War wherein the United States rejected slavery.

"400th anniversary of the arrival of Black slaves..."

Noting the first legal slave owner, Anthony Johnson of Virginia?

FYI, Johnson was black.

The NYT is pining for the old days, except now they want all of us to be slaves.

These afro bigot, gimeedat race hustlers resemble nothing more than a bunch of roaches dancing on a very hot griddle. The clown editor at the NY Slimes, the one who insists on being referred to as a Creole, is one of the most odious

Will mention be made of the 1653 lawsuit by Anthony Johnson, a "free black" and the first colonist to legally own for life, a person who had committed no crime(John Casor) ?

Don’t you know that if not for African slaves in America, America would look like Africa?

Racial division is a useful tool for the left. That’s why they can’t let the country get past the race thing.

Slavery has been demonized. The forefathers had servants and made them work.

In 1619, there was no country and no constitution for the United States. Slaves were captured in Africa and shipped to the shores of what would later be the United States, mainly in the southern portion. There was no country and no laws which would control it. In the latter 1700’s, the country of the United States of America was formed. In the Northern half, the trend toward abolition began to swell. Benjamin Franklin was one of the early leaders. Over the next 80 to 90 years, it swelled into what drove the civil war which abolished slavery. The idea that the New York Times is trying revisionist history to inflict guilt on the entire country stinks to high heaven. They should be called on this effort by most all of us. They are really lousy for trying this.

Just what the hell does the NYT think they are. England allowed slavery in England until after 2000. They allowed slavery in their commonwealth until just before New York itself outlawed slavery in the 1830s. And that is right, New York was a slave state.

Here is the reality, Any major civilization in the world was or is a slave owning civilization at one time. Or they evolved from one. Indians had slaves. Incas had slaves, Huns had slaves, and don’t say you’re Irish or Black or Jewish. They had slaves too. In fact, here is how you can tell if you had a slave owning ancestor, Is your IQ over 120, then yes. That does not mean the reverse is true. But its a sure thing if you have a pretty high IQ. Also, even if you have a high IQ it does not mean your ancestors were not slaves at one time or another. But slaves were often slaves for a reason. They were conquered or generally unable to fend for themselves. So slaves were often trading toil of one type or another for protection and/or survival. They may not have had a choice. They may not have had good masters, but the trade was there.

Let them complain about British colonies then. The US, and particularly white Christian men put an end to slavery on these shores. It still exists in other places. Not here. Author can pound sand.

understanding 1619 as our true founding,

Soooo... they can blame America instead of Britain for most of our slavery years... and they can pretend that the Revolution didn't happen or wasn't of any consequence.

They're Deranged.

They will try to convince the public that William Bradford landed with 5 or so slaves with him.
