Trump's public mention of background checks is vanishing
WJXT-TV ^ | August 17, 2019 | Jeremy Diamond, CNN

President Donald Trump couldn't stop talking about the importance of strengthening background checks as he addressed reporters last Friday after a week steeped in the aftermath of the country's latest pair of mass shootings.

He uttered the term "background checks" 18 times as he fielded questions from reporters about what kind of action he would take in the wake of the shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, that killed 31 people. While he shied away from specifics, he made clear that he wanted to strengthen the system and that he felt he could rally Republican support for "common sense, sensible, important background checks."

By Tuesday, the next time Trump spoke publicly, he used the term only three times. And on Thursday, when reporters pressed him on the progress, he mentioned background checks only once before taking the stage at a campaign rally. During his 90-minute remarks, Trump didn't once invoke the term.

After a week at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and with the conversation around Dayton and El Paso waning, Trump has -- at least publicly -- scaled back his emphasis on even modest reforms to the nation's gun laws. Instead, the President focused almost exclusively on the issue of mental health, which is a more palatable conversation among the President's base of supporters than imposing new hurdles to the purchase of firearms in the United States.

We already have background checks.

I don’t see why we would need background checks.

I think what they mean is on private sales and trades! Which means if you wanted to trade guns with a buddy you would have to go thru an FFL and have a background check, or if you sell one at a gun show to a private individual!

My question is, since when has the raid of 6 LEO on a radicalized drug dealer became a mass shooting? The perp was a drug dealing Muzzie not a nut in Walmart. He may have been mentally ill but he was a freaking criminal. Red Flag crap and/ or background checks don’t do anything for that. These azzholes need to go down hard with extreme prejudice. That was the most polite way I could say what I’m thinking.

What about red flag laws? Read an explanation with examples from a lawyer.

The enforcement problems with gun-grabbing ‘red flag’ laws are even worse than you think

If you want the President to know your opinion on universal background checks and red flag laws, then fill out the NRA poll, stamp it and send it in.

Of course all his talk about background checks is disappearing. It’s always been nothing more than political pandering. He knows damn well that the government cannot be trusted to do it right ... or even to do it LEGALLY.

What if I wanted to let my buddy use my gun?

Would I have to go through an FFL then too?

I really don’t think I want a bunch of scrutiny from people that I have no trust in whatsoever.

Arrest all the filthy felons who shoot people weekly in places like Chicago and St. Louis. They have carte figgin blanche. Send dangerous insane people back into looney bins.

The communists are trying to take away our protection by criminalizing patriots. Eff them.

public beheadings five weeks after conviction of mass shooters should put a crimp in the mass shootings.

Let have ultra background checks, where if you are clean, drug free and no crimes or convictions, you are allowed to carry a gun any and everywhere, even in gun free zones!

Hint.....POTUS, Trump needs to hold a massive political rally in New York City honoring all Law Enforcement
Folks (Cops, etc,), Firefighters, First Responders, EMTs, AMTS, Nurses, Doctors, etc. either in Madison Square Garden or Yankee Stadium, open to the public...free of charge.

The theme should be: Dump Democrat, NYC Cop Hater, Mayor, Bill De Blasio, immediately and all the low life Democrat, Scum & Vermin Mayors across the country who hate both America & our Law Enforcement Folks!!! And....Trump should have a replica of De Blasio on stage, having water and food thrown all over him like he has urged & openly supported the Scum & Vermin criminals of NYC to do to the NYC police!!!

I’ll bet a million folks would show up to destroy De Blasio and the entire Hate America Democrat Party Scum & Vermin, Low life!!!

Do it...Trumpie, We the American “Deplorables” People & voters are with you and we stand with, all of our beloved Law Enforcement Folks and First Responders, etc.!!!

Trump uses “pacing” frequently to get people and the momentum on his side before leading them...

The 4473 form coincides with a gun book. Both required by the government to be kept by the seller or until business ends and then they are sent to Uncle Sam. When holding a FFL license you are open to warrantless searches. Not a big deal. Hell Hank and Harold will get this all down no sweat.
