Israels interior minister tore into U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib on Friday for abruptly canceling plans to visit family in the West Bank after the government granted permission for the trip in a bid to smooth over a diplomatic firestorm.
Apparently her hate for Israel overcomes her love for her grandmother, Aryeh Deri tweeted.
The dueling statements from Tlaib and the Israeli government are poised to escalate a confrontation that briefly seemed to be ebbing Friday morning when Deri granted Tlaibs request on humanitarian grounds to see her grandmother in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
This came after the Israeli government drew bipartisan criticism in Washington for refusing entry to Tlaib, D-Mich., and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., as part of a broader visit.
But then Tlaib, in a scathing statement and set of tweets, announced she had decided not to go, saying "oppressive conditions meant to humiliate me would break my grandmother's heart."

Well, yes. And grandma gets it.
I still say the move by Israel was a boneheaded move, disrespectful of the US and our billions of dollars and support. No surprise it lasted barely 24-hours. It made a martyr of these two vile US elected members of Congress and tells everyone that it is okay to diss our officials if they dont agree with their politics. However vile these two are, they have constitutional oversight role, which Israel denied. Better to let them go and embarrass themselves. our relationship with Israel and others is country-to-country, not with a single political party. Making it otherwise and political is self-defeating in the long run. And, besides, our internal politics should stop at the border.
“We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us. -Golda Meir
Also applies to their elderly loved ones.
A delegation of about 70 congressional members went to Israel. This two anti-Jews opted out.
We should learn from Israel.
These two anti Jews had their own agenda when going to Israel OMG I pray these two are voted out of office God be willing!!!
This was a brilliant move on Israel's part. Israel played this scenario very well. They ended up smelling like a rose.
Ban these two muslim gals from entering Israel because of their anti-semitic positions but then grant the one gal a chance to see her grandmother.
By refusing their offer, she played right into Israel's hands and showed her true colors. Her request wasn't about seeing her grandmother. If it was, she'd have taken Israel up on their offer.
Instead, she wasn't afforded the opportunity to embarrass Israel while she was there so she refused.
Now, instead of Israel looking bad, she looks worse.
Good job, Bibi.
Next year very few Dems will go.
I think it was brilliant on Israel’s part. First, she said she was going with the deligation. Then, she didn’t. Then, she asked to go to see her grandma. Then, it turned out she was going with a hate group which was her intention all along. Then, Israel called her on it and banned her. Then she got all hyper so Israel said ok. Then, she said no. BAM! Gotcha! She just slapped her grandmother in the face with that and proved to the entire world what her real intentions were.
Her grandmother was walking around outside with a reporter and appeared healthy enough to make a trip to the US if she really wanted to see her hateful and disrespectful grandchild.
I have to vote for Israel on this one. The only thing that Omar and Tlaib would have done on this trip is to embarrass the United States.
Do you even read what you type? Why would you think Israel has any obligation to let representatives of our legislative government into their country for any reason at all if they choose not to?
For our billions of dollars and military support maybe?
Money is the only thing that means anything? You think we buy access like Hillary Clinton demands?
Israel has a Constitutional obligation to uphold it's own laws, which they did by denying these two, and other BDS activists, entry.
Okay, for the sake of discussion, what if a Democrat controlled House says not only no money but no military aid for Israel? That have your attention? I fear the precedent set, for politics, wont set well if reversesd. Further, Israel or not, I have a serious problem with any country dissing the U.S. maybe you are not American, therefore not your concern? I strongly believe in America First, last, and always. Even if they are vile members of Congress, they are our vile members of Congress. They are, at least for the moment, US citizens and elected members of our government, and should be respected for such. Even by Israel, and especially by Israel that exists solely because of our money, military, our aid, and the blood of our service members.
She comes from people who strap bombs to their kids.
By that logic you respect Hillary Clinton. No! Those vile harpies have proven they hold allegiance to something other than America.
I value American sovereignty and because of that, I value Israel's sovereignty.
They got exactly as much respect as they gave. They released an official US Congress “Itinerary to Palestine” for their trip. That is beyond the pale.
