Five Chicago teenagers are being charged with murder after a 14-year-old who was with them was shot and killed by a homeowner during an alleged burglary attempt, according to authorities.
Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff's Office were called to a home in Old Mill Creek, Illinois, about 47 miles north of Chicago, Tuesday around 1:15 a.m. following the shooting, Detective Sgt. Chris Covelli told reporters in a news conference.
The 75-year-old homeowner told deputies he went outside after noticing a suspicious SUV in his driveway and several people on his property, whom he believed were attempting to break into and steal his car, a 2011 Audi, Covelli said.

Well at least that’s five criminals off the streets...all in on clip. Then they wonder why the prison numbers are so high....
While justified, I have a hard time feeling happiness about a 14-year-old’s life being snuffed out.
I don’t think he had a chance to become a good citizen.
[I dont think he had a chance to become a good citizen.]
They will all be out in a few years if not a few months.
Earl Betts, 53, Jaquans great-uncle, said the teen suffered without a solid father figure.
Theres a bigger picture. Yeah, its a sad thing, Betts said. He was a baby with no direction. ... A child wasnt given a chance to have any direction.
No matter what the teen was dealing with, however, Betts said Jaquan shouldnt have been shot.
He wasnt given a chance. He was taken out like a damn dog. He was shot. Over a f------ car. Thats sad.
More Ghetto Logic, this article written by a woman of color.
It is wrong to charge teenagers with a murder they clearly did not intend to happen and likely never even considered might happen. It is unfair to allow a mistake, a lapse in judgment such as stealing a car, to result in a lifetime label as a violent offender.
Someone they knew died that night. And even in the alleged commission of a crime, they tried to do right by him. They put him in the SUV and stopped to ask a police officer for help. One of them got out with the victim and waited as police administered first aid. Then he was arrested.
The others did what you might expect immature, scared teenagers to do. They fled in the stolen SUV, leading a bevy of law enforcement officials on a high-speed chase from Lake County to Chicago before running out of gas.
For that, they deserve to be punished. They do not deserve to spend decades of their young adult life behind bars for a murder they did not commit.
A smart defense attorney will say that their client is a fricken retard, as the USSC has ruled you cant sentence a retard to death, because, well, theyre retards.
Felony murder rule. That’s one thing other judicial systems has to borrow from the Common Law.
Must have had the FR approved range time.
Not happiness; relief. Fewer future crimes.
does that make it a mass shooting if they all get the chair?
I dunno, I'm kind of happy I won't be seein' these six walkin' up my driveway at 1:00 AM.
Or my neighbor's.
stealing a car should never cost someone their life...
in 3,2,1...
Teens are far more unstable and hyped up on drugs than the adults they learn it from. Add in hormonal levels and they’re far more dangerous and unpredictable...
Car thief, at night with a Bowie knife, advancing on the home owner after he told them to leave.
The home owner did society a favor.
Not sure, except I'm sure it's Trumps fault, and only happened because of his White Supremacist rhetoric.
I don’t suppose “Do you know where you children are” would have helped these kids in the least. They look hardened enough already.
In the hood, it’s more like “do you know where your Parent is”
I disagree. The loss of a violent criminal scumbag is a victory, particularly when killed early in his criminal career preventing untold numbers of crimes in the future.
That is the female, Diamond Davis. Two of her brothers were also arrested. Should be easy to pick them out.
I’m with you.
