He never intended to win the nomination. He just wanted exposure to run for senate against gardner. gardner is a real POS, but probably better then chickenchocker.

There are those (Dan Caplis being one) who think it was never about getting the Presidential nomination but rather amassing a war chest for the Senate race. For a guy who accidentally became a politician, he sure got entrenched quickly.
Unfortunately, I think he will be a formidable opponent to Gardner. His "aw shucks" ads appeal to a lot of the greenies here. Ugh.
