Roughly 150 locals attended an August 12 job fair to apply for jobs at the Koch Foods plants in Mississippi.
The fair was run after the August 7 removal of 243 alleged illegal migrants in two of the companys chicken processing plants, according to local authorities.
The local Jackson Clarion-Ledger newspaper reported 25 to 30 people went to the job fair in Forest, Mississippi. The report said:
Kamerio Whitley, a resident of the nearby town of Morton, spoke to reporters after he left the building. He said there were several positions available at the plant, including forklift operators.
Whitley said he applied for a job working at the plants rehang table, where workers hang frozen chickens.
The job starts at $12 an hour, which is decent pay for the area, Whitley said. Thats not bad to start, and it can always go up, he said.
The company is also trying to hire workers with online ads. Local officials made sure the hiring process complied with federal hiring regulations, according to WAPT 16.
Koch Foods is not part of the Koch brothers network of energy companies.
By 10 a.m., a crowd of dozens was on hand Most were black and spoke with accents from the American South. A few appeared white or Hispanic, AP reported. The news service continued:
The 25-year-old [Eddie Nicholson] has worked in chicken plants before and was considering a return, but wanted to see if wages had gone up. Plants in recent years have typically paid $11 to $12 an hour, according to labor statistics, but Nicholson said he wants $15 an hour.

Often times businesses hire low level hispanic managers who then hire their kind. Shutting out blacks in particular from the job market. I saw this happen over and over at businesses in Oakland, CA 10-15 years ago.
There is so much wrong with this statement. First, there is no data supporting that a raise in the min. wage is accompanied by higher unemployment. Since, hiring illegals is well, illegal. Min. wage law has nothing to do with attracting them. Greed and lawlessness take car of that.
Breitbart made the distinction that KOCH FOODS is not KOCH brothers.
That’s an important distinction. I had assumed they were the same, myself.
Good idea, except some Chinese national or front would probably outbid everyone else, then they’d own even MORE of our chicken processors.
The American Southern accent is a beautiful thing!.......
What accent? I aint got no accent. Thats racist too.
Maybe the positions of the Koch Food executives will be available for filling if those executives are fired and criminally charged. Those positions should pay a lot more than $12/hour.
Excuse me. It is almost impossible for a would be entrepreneur in a poor neighborhood to hire a helper for $15 an hour. Further, in many cases this doubling of minimum wage will force the hiring of fewer workers. Thus, jobs are denied.
Next, the higher the minimum wage the greater incentive to hire under the table illegal workers.
Koch foods??? Why wasnt whichever Koch brother owned this place arrested?
Under your argument a $100 minimum wage would not result in higher unemployment?
I meant Koch and whoever made the decision to hire illegals and who, up or down the chain knew about it.
I would not be surprised to learn that some of these illegal aliens were living in housing rented to them by the company.
I know that a few years ago in our small town in Kentucky a Chinese buffet restaurant got busted because they had a bunch of illegals as employees AND was housing them in crowded conditions. Damn difficult to claim that they were unaware the employees were illegals.
My point? Most, if not all, of these employers are fully aware of who they have working for them. The people in HR for this company need to go to jail. They conspired to hire all these illegals, IT AIN’T ACCIDENTAL.
I gotta wonder why the feds never use asset forfeiture laws in these cases? I guess it’s just easier to steal from American citizens who are not stuffing the campaign coffers of our rulers in DC.
Koch is in the name, but that is not the owner. It has nothing to do with the Koch brothers, though you would not know that from the headline.
Apparently it’s owned by someone else. The Koch name just stayed................
Never said it did.
A slaughterhouse would be small potatoes for the Koch brothers, and Ive got no Issues with them anyway.
Again, whoever had knowledge at Koch Foods of any illegals being employed needs to have charges filed against them. I dont care if their name happens to be Ronald McDonald
My apologies. I misinterpreted what you meant when you used Koch by itself. Of course, that was probably their intent in running the story.
