Paul, a strong gun-rights advocate, signaled his willingness to support something along the lines of "red flag" laws that allow guns to be removed from those who may be a danger to themselves and others.
"I'm not opposed to sort of an emergency order for 48 hours and then you get a hearing in a court where you get the full due-process protections," he said in the interview. "It's the one thing that could fix a lot of stuff. I think most of these homicidal attackers ... are sending off signals to their family and community."

I know, it’s the old 5 people on the island, 3 guys and 2 girls, and they have a vote on whether to legalize rape...
I don’t argue that principle. The problem is the Democrat judges...they simply IGNORE the US Constitution when it doesn’t suit them, so the rights we have to be protected from government will only exist as long as Republicans are appointing judges. It totally sucks. Heller should have been 9-0, it was 5-4...that’s the reality of the country today.
And he would have gotten his gun(s) back in 48 hours.
who pays your defense bills for frivolous accusations????!
It would need 400 pages of description of what a red flag is. Otherwise we are getting into subjectivity.
Id prefer to ignore the guns and do red flags on the actual person who is shown to be disassociated from life or sanity in such a way that threatens himself or his community.
Well, I also should mentioned that I think this is an individual state issue. NOT a federal one.
For all I know it could’ve been the other way around. Back in November when this happened I read every article I could find on this, and there weren’t that many. It was political, no specifics given as to content.
Most of the family were used to his animation and knew he was harmless. The one made a call to the cops and the cops were the ones that made the application for the red flag.
“When I moved to Az in 2000 just about everyone open carried and it was not alarming to anyone at all. Everyone was used to the fact it was just part of the culture...”
I don’t dispute that, but I will say that if they all showed up in the suburbs of say, Cleveland, where the white Soccer Moms send their kids to the ‘Wonderful Public Schools’, those people might get a different reception. Lose that vote, and it’s over for us.
Again, we don’t have to get votes, the guys in DC do...and I just can’t see us winning by saying that solution is more guns, everywhere...since so many people see the guns as the problem, not the shooters.
No no no. The 48 hours is the MINIMUM and it is only after the final adjudication not from the time of removal.
Agreed.
Here’s another thought....
When does owning an “arsenal” become a red flag?
We all guffaw at what Big Media sometimes considers an arsenal.
There is a funny thing that happens when everyone is doing it no matter where or what it is, It tends to just become “normal”. While it might cause a stir at first, over a very short time it will become normal.
The best chances you have to turn away and run off a wild animal is to make yourself as big as possible and growl louder than they do without showing fear. The current anti-gun sentiment is the wild animal challenging us. :)
Fair point - I think I’ll use that when debating. It still won’t play well for those who need votes though...thankfully not me!
Come to think of it, I use a version of it when I’m called a racist or whatever for supporting Trump.
I tell them: “Of course I’m a racist, after all I support Trump”.
They NEVER have a response to that.
Out of the last 10 maniac killers, how many had been reported by family, medical personnel, etc.? Would that be none of them? So this miracle cure would have accomplished nothing.
“Red Flag laws are the window dressing for the kinds of actions that put Salem, MA in the history books.”
Yep. Salem happened for the same stupidity Red Flag laws have come about. People are morons.
I don’t know what to say. Has society gone so nuts that the Constitution is now only a piece of paper from another time?
Given the lack of teaching history in schools, it may indeed be so.
My personal life is in good order & all my relatives are pushing up daisies. I have had to disperse my guns twice while renovations were done. Having a friend who lives on a remote farm & is always packing when I go to visit is a tremendous asset.
Oh - and best of all, I live in a state where pushing Red Flag is political suicide.
Other than that, I’m worried. Deeply worried.
“It is applied only to specific people based on their actions and threatening words.”
Actually, none of the Red Flag laws enumerate specific crimes for which firearms can be seized. None. Liberal judges are free to say, “Well, you own guns and that’s enough to prove you are a violent nutcase to me.”
Not to mention, the person receives forced mental health evaluations, consulting, and must prove they are no longer a threat to get their gun back. They also have an arrest record, a criminal record (yes, Red Flag adjudications are a criminal proceeding).
By federal law a person can also no longer own firearms. Why? Because the of the Firearms Transaction Record Form 4473 question 11F: “Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?”
And like confronting a wild animal, if we run or show fear, they will indeed chase us even faster. This is what has already been happening. It is time to turn back around and confront them with everything we can muster, make them lock up the brakes, and force them to back off.
What’s with these Libertarian types lately?
First that empty headed SE Cupp (ashamed of her given name?) and now Senator Rand. Does anyone have any stones left?
Nothing scares an animal like fire and as the burning, etc. of the American flag is called free speech, it is time to start protesting by burning red flags and otherwise showing contempt for them.
If somebody is too dangerous to have a gun, then it is too dangerous not to incarcerate him.
Sick of Republican “mavericks” like Rand Paul and Flimsey Grahamnesty. They can never be trusted.
