Senior Trump administration official Ken Cuccinelli said Monday he doesn't think President Trump sent the wrong message by giving his first prison commutation to a man who was one of the nation's largest employers of illegal immigrants.
The acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, a hardliner on immigration policy, said the Trump administration's message is one of toughness, not leniency, after raids this month of seven food processing plants in Mississippi resulted in 680 arrests.
"I don't think so," Cuccinelli said, regarding whether the 2017 release of Sholom Rubashkin sent the wrong message. The former Iowa meatpacking executive was seven years into a 27-year sentence. "The president does those one person at a time."

He was not convicted of hiring illegals. He was sentenced for bank fraud.
Some underlings took the rap for illegals.

Toughness on the illegal, leniency on those who employ them. Reverse that and the illegal immigrant problem could very well take care of itself.

For those hoping that the President runs out the clock and ends up doing nothing meaningful with illegals, this is welcome news. One step closer to a fundamental transformation to socialism and political corruption.
To patriotic, law abiding, peaceable American citizens, this is very unwelcome and troubling news.
The time is here to recognize we have a tiered justice system. It's no longer guilty or not guilty but who you are in the ruling class.

You’re right. Nevertheless, he was very involved in the hiring of illegals. And it absolutely sends the wrong message.
Bottom line: This commutation stinks, it stinks to high heaven. This is not some guy who accidentally ran afoul of some obscure federal law. Rubashkin cheated banks out of millions. He should be in prison for decades.
This type of political commutation is something Bill Clinton would have done.

The odd thing is that binary triggers do the same thing and were not banned.
Instead they decided (completely irrationally) that a piece of plastic was a machine gun.
I have personal knowledge of the case. The Feds didn’t try him on the illegals because they didn’t want a precedent of hard time for hiring illegals.
The bank fraud stuff was kind of a joke. He did more than hire illegals. He was involved with selling US visas overseas and having illegals assume the identity of legal visa holders, and other weird stuff. There was doubt about how much he knew exactly, but for sure he cooperated with illegality.
His commutation came because there wasn’t any other example of anyone getting such a sentence for what he was charged with.
It was not they.. it was Prez Trump.. and he is back at it. With so many wonderful pro life policies, he still doesn’t get this one right preserves all the rest.
Everyone here forgot he banned bumpstocks. They declared it strategic, as they are this one.
