Boris blamed for power cut chaos that brought Britain to standsill

The government should be held responsible for Friday’s power cut that left thousands stranded and sent London into ‘apocalyptic darkness’, a transport union leader has said.

Manuel Cortes, general secretary of the Transport Salaried Staffs Association, has demanded answers from Boris Johnson over blackouts which affected over a million people.

People were unable to travel from some of the country’s busiest railway stations including Kings Cross and Euston on Friday.

Some chose to spend hundreds on taxis home instead of waiting out the chaos, but thousands of passengers face a second day of disruption as they attempt to make their journeys today. Mr Cortes said it was reasonable to wonder if the power cut was a ‘sign of things to come’ as Britain hurls towards a no-deal Brexit.

Everyone knows the PM has a bank of circuit breakers in the cloakroom outside his office that can take down the entire electric grid of Great Britain.

In eastern NC after a hurricane, my sister and nephew were without power for 10 days and totally surrounded by flood waters for much of that time.

They didn’t complain as much...

Nine months from now he’ll be blamed for a baby explosion.

"When power was restored, the train could not be restarted," he said.

"They called in engineers who also couldn't get us moving. The driver told us this had happened to all the Thameslink trains of that type, i.e. it was a design flaw."

He said there was no food or drink available on that train and the toilets were locked.

Passengers were eventually moved on to another train at about 22:30 and an hour later he reached Hatfield, 12 miles away from Stevenage.

He boarded a replacement bus to London but before it had left Hatfield, its gearbox failed and a replacement had to be arranged.

He said he then resorted to getting a taxi to Bristol, which cost £190 and he got home at 03:45 BST.

Boris has been PM for two or three weeks and he’s responsible for power failures?

Like Johnny pulling the plug in Airplane. "Only kidding." Somebody on FR has the meme (or gif?) for that scene. Great one.

Boris now has to be the lightning rod as Trump is here.

Oops. I forgot the array of plugs that shut off the National Lampoon Wollheim family Christmas tree but then shut down half the city which had to go to reserve nuclear power status.

See, lots of precedents.

It looks like BoJo is going to be the British left’s version of Trump — he’ll get blamed for everything. Even the weather. Hope he’s learned how to fight back.

This is BS reporting. I am in the London Bridge area of London and I didn’t even know about it until the next morning. I’m sure it seemed apocalyptic to the people without power on the tubes and trains or in elevators, but it wasn’t as wide spread as this report makes it seem.

Geez. Histrionics. I endured a “power cut” that lasted 13 hours at my house, lasted up to 4 days elsewhere, and affected some 300,000 or so customers, due to an Ice Storm the “Weather” Channel charitably named “Winter Storm Nika” in Feb. 2014.

OK, GB outage affected over a million people, but at least it’s summer. My outage was in the dead of winter in Maryland.

7 days in the district of columbia without power as a result of a Hurricane Isabel, but it wasn’t the hurricane. It was the incompetent people who run DC and love their trees however hazardous their condition or placement.

You’re being charitable. Given the racial quota ghetto that comprises DC’s municipal work force, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who is capable of planning, let alone plans.

"...7 days in the district of columbia without power as a result of a Hurricane Isabel..."

Yep... Remember Izzy very well... The Chesapeake Bay decided that both my docks needed renovation and the downstairs of my house needed 5-feet of water to force me to, eventually. throw out all my old comfortable furniture...Also, lost about 6000 rounds of ammo that, while unopened, happened to not be put away and was just sitting on the floor waiting to be shelved... Took 4-days to get the water pumped out... Another 4-days to get the mud out... Another 2-days for spraying/disinfecting...

George Bush's fault...{:-)

I lived in Florida from 1992 - 2015.

Even during our worst hurricane seasons (2004-2006) I never lost power for more than three days
