Firmly entrenched at the top of the polling for the race to become the party of youth and diversity's presidential nominee are three white people who are a combined 223 years-old. There is, however, some movement among the lower-tier candidates that at least gives political junkies something to watch.
Entrepreneur Andrew Yang and his gimmicky "guaranteed $1000 a month income" campaign pitch are picking up a little steam.
Yang crossed the second of two required debate thresholds on Thursday, when he polled at 2 percent in a Monmouth University poll in Iowa. He had previously received at least 2 percent in three other polls approved by the Democratic National Committee and has hit the required 130,000 unique donor mark.
While most of the Democratic candidates are promising free things like health care and education, Yang cuts right to the chase and offers free money. It was only a matter of time before the greedy liberal electorate helped him gain a little traction.
Even more delightful is the fact that Yang moved up in this poll at the expense of former media golden boy Beto O'Rourke:
At the other end of the spectrum, onetime Democratic phenom Beto O'Rourke was outperformed in the poll by Yang, clocking in at under 1 percent.
During one of the recent Democratic debates, I was having a Twitter conversation with a still-rabid Beto supporter who was a perfect example of the nonsensical nature of media-made candidates.
The guy kept tweeting dubious polls at me about Beto being able to carry Texas in a general election. I naturally kept responding with reality, explaining that O'Rourke's chances of making it to anywhere near the end of the primary season were practically nonexistent.
It mattered not to him. He kept telling me that I was stupid all the while ignoring the very linear process required for his candidate to make it to the general election.
I wish I could remember the guy's Twitter handle just so I could enjoy repeatedly pointing out to him that the magic unicorn that Beto is supposed to ride to the nomination has a wheezing cough and is about to expire.
Irish Bob sad.
LOL
I feel sorry for all those Dallas drivers I see who still proudly have Beto stickers on their cars. They are going to be very disappointed.
expect the fake white mexican Bozo Beto to quit and take on the RINO Cornyn for the Texas senate seat.
How amusing. I saw signs for Mr. Yang on the campus of North Carolina State University when I was there to pick up my son from a high school engineering summer camp.
Where’s my boy, ex- Gov. Chickenfluffer of Colorado?

His main schtick is advocating for a Universal Basic Income for EVERYONE ( I don’t think even guys like Warren Buffet are excluded ).
The UBI is one of those nerd ideas that “could work” if you assume spherical humans in a vacuum.
Beto is such a putz. As far as Yangk is concerned,it puzzles me why some wealthy entrepreneurs want to instill an economic system that eliminates the opportunities for regular people to achieve his status.
I remember reading somewhere, this old white guy Benjamin Franklin saying the end of the republic is when the citizens can vote themselves more money.
Jefferson.
Of course he did. I posted on this topic earlier. The DNC created a system that in order to qualify for each round you need to reach certain milestones in the polling numbers and in the number of donors and/or money raised.
So the candidates who can pander the most will move further on in the debate schedule. If you promise $1000 a month to the voters, you can get a bunch of them to give you $1 and/or to rank you high in the polls. Yeah, that’s all it takes for this round - a slew of $1 donors and/or iirc 2% in 4 or more national polls. The candidates are spending as much as $70 in outreach to find $1 donors. It will get more stringent as time goes on but those who make it through each round are more likely to pick up polling numbers and donors from those who are pushed out.
Beto is out there barking at the moon like a raving lunatic - and that’s not going to get him donors. The people promising free healthcare, free money, free education, debt forgiveness etc are the ones who will move further in the debates. It’s craziness - but that’s the Democrats for you.
Good for Yang! That O’Rourke boy is a phony and a nut!
Nobody is excluded.
The thing of it is, it’s not entirely an original idea and it’s not purely a leftist idea. Milton Friedman had put similar ideas to paper 50 years ago. Not saying he was advocating these ideas, just trying to design a better tax system. Friedman had suggested a ‘negative income tax bracket” so where if you earned under the poverty line, you would actually get money instead of paying money.
So if you give everyone $1000 a month it becomes a complete wash relatively speaking. Inflation will wipe it out. Some people will pocket it and do nothing. Others will continue doing whatever they were doing before, and just end up paying more in taxes on the $12,000. Some might work $12,000 a year less who knows. But ultimately and in time it will become meaningless as the cost of living will eventually, and quicker than through normal inflation, go up by $12,000 a year as demand for goods and services will increase by $12,000 a year per capita.

Beto is campaigning in Mexico. Bwahahahaha
Whitey O’Rourke is Wendy Davis with a penis.
Who thought it was a good idea to pawn off a substitute when they could have run the real abortion Barbie?
Probably the nicest guy in the whole Democratic field but what a whack job. In the last debate, he said it was too late to solve “global warming” and that it was time to get everybody to higher ground.
Although I don’t agree with Yang he seems like someone you could have a rational conversation with and politely disagree. Not so much with those other 20 wild eyed frothing at the mouth moon rakers.
“Wheres my boy, ex- Gov. Chickenfluffer of Colorado?”
Mr. Chickenfluffer is polling at 0.0 percent in the RCP poll average:
