Much better than running an appointee through the confirmation minefield. Confirmation proceedings would give Democrats the headlines which they just got a week’s worth from deranged shooters.
With an acing DNI, there is minimal opportunity for Democrats to command he narrative.

Yes. But Trump can delay nomination for months to see how the Acting guy does. Nomination is a back-burner item unless Maguire is a disaster.
