NRA donor files class-action suit; claims VP LaPierre blew $275K on suits, $243K on 'luxury travel'
Washington Times ^ | Aug 7, 2019 | David Sherfinski

David Dell’Aquila filed a federal class-action lawsuit in Tennessee and fired off letters to the attorneys general in New York and Washington on Wednesday, urging them to complete investigations into the NRA well before the 2020 election.

“We feel that the NRA no longer represents its membership and has been corrupted by those in control,” said Mr. Dell’Aquila, who has given about $100,000 worth of cash and gifts to the group in the last several years and — until recently — had pledged most of his estate to the group when he died.

The lawsuit is the latest headache for the gun-rights organization, which has been rocked this year by the departure of top staffers including President Oliver North and former top strategist Chris Cox...

The NRA is also facing probes by the attorneys general in New York and Washington over financial activities, with the organization’s coveted nonprofit status at risk.

Mr. Dell’Aquila, in his new lawsuit that posted to the Middle District of Tennessee on Wednesday, says the NRA under Mr. LaPierre has drifted from its “core mission” of protecting gun owners’ rights and promoting firearm safety.

He lists nearly $275,000 he says the NRA spent on clothes for Mr. LaPierre at a Beverly Hills store and more than $243,000 on “luxury travel” for him to destinations such as the Bahamas and Palm Beach, Florida.

And citing a memo Mr. North wrote in April, the new lawsuit says the NRA has paid the Brewer law firm nearly $2 million a month but the money was “not properly authorized by the NRA.” Mr. North had told NRA officials the payments to the Brewer firm, which is representing the organization in a lawsuit against New York, were “draining NRA cash at mind-boggling speed.”

I am NOT a member of the NRA to help Mr. LaPierre live the live of Riley.
His extravagance is going to cost the organization loads of support.
Get rid of his sorry ass.

I have to believe they can find a temporary replacement who would agree to leading for 10-12 months and recruiting potential new leaders over 6 months and then let the top 3-4 meet with members for a vote.

More on fancy suits than on fancy travel? Just seems unlikely.

No more $ from me until thorough outside audit completed. Would urge all here to write to NRA HQ and advise them of this.

And what does Mr. David Dell’Aquila DO to be able to give 100K to the NRA? Hmmm?

Exactly what is he employed as? Living in a large tract home... in Nashvile, TN. Prior addresses in Annapolis, and Ellicott City, MD.

This... imho, is fishy. Where does he get his income? Is he an obamaumao plant into this— to have been continued with hitlery in office. Lawsuit, shmawsuit. The NRA was audited, btw.

Get rid of his sorry ass.

Indeed!

For God’s sake and for the sake of the precarious future of our Republic, dispatch LaPierre and turn the reigns over to Chris Cox or perhaps Dana Loesch—before it’s too late for next year’s election!

Cannot imagine how President Trump prevails in his reelection effort and the GOP reclaims the House and holds the Senate without the vital ground game of the NRA!

BTW, no more Red Flags or other slippery slope restrictions.
The mother of the El Paso shooter has come forward with her own words of warning and the former girlfriend of the Dayton gunman has spoken out. Moreover, school authorities knew of heinous intentions of the Dayton perpetrator.

Two years ago, even the FBI had been notified about the Parkland school attacker, but failed to act.

I sincerely hope PDJT doesn’t bend to pressure to modify second amendment rights.

Only those who stand idly by, withholding knowledge of obvious evil intentions brewing in the twisted minds of people they know, should be held accountable.

We all read this on the internet, so it must be true. I hate to see alleged conservatives stampede like lemmings. What may or may not be true is a long way from the first reports.
We have to ask if LaPierre is doing his job and who is watching his check writing. We vote on directors every year. What position have they taken? If they haven’t taken one then we need new directors.

It will be a race to see if this lawsuit makes it to trial before the New York State Attorney General files charges against the NRA.

He’s been there a looong time and you have to expect the entire leadership he put in place are little more than Mini-Mes.

I worked with the NRA on campaigns before. Once you are dealing with it’s web of insiders it becomes clear that it is a bloated organizations with it’s own internal political universe, full of back-stabbing ladder climbers. I say that as an outsider with no horse in any conflict. But it was very eyebrow raising.

It seems that every organization ever assembled fails prey to arrogance and bloat. Clean house and cull the herd , our right to bear arms is far too important for personal thiefdoms
