One thing I think that is getting lost in the hubbub over this movie is that the filmmakers have the “deplorables” win. They are the heroes of the film, and the ones hunting them are clearly the villains.

The guys that produced it aren’t even typical Hollywood lefties, they are a trio of guys from North Carolina. Though I’m sure they aren’t Republicans, they are not left coast elites. Seems to me the actual message of the film may have “whooshed” over some peoples’ heads in the rush to be outraged.

Thank you.

Expect it to be lost on many. A lot of the active shooter types are suicidal, and , what with us being doomed to die from global warming, I’d expect the movie to infect some susceptible minds. I’d feel pretty evenly matched if I were unarmed and could lure an armed snowflake into the brush. I don’t think they’re able, or likely to track, though.

That could be the reason for the hubbub. Someone wants the film pulled before the deplorables get emboldened. If it makes the left look bad, it must be deemed “hate speech”.

I watched the trailers and nothing "whooshed" by -- the actual message you describe wasn't there to be seen. Serious question -- where did you get this information? It certainly hasn't been part of the ad campaign.

That said, 'entertainment' like this is still a bad idea. It puts too many thoughts in addled heads, something we're seeing a lot of these days. You think the people who produce this horrid tripe would know better. But they don't, apparently.

You don't understand how Hollywood ‘.works...

Hollywood makes movies that show violent rape, cruelly, blood lust and then in the last 5 minutes ‘the hero’ wins and kills the ‘bad guy’.

For a full 153 minutes every sicko sits there and gets off on the sexual violence... it's the violence that sells this garbage. Notice how little dialog is put in these movies? Interferes with the violence.

This is violence Hollywood couldn't show WITHOUT the pollyanna ending. It would be too obvious. I can assure you - the ‘message’ is the 150 minutes of violence NOT the 3 minutes of ‘good guy wins’.

This show is the same.

- liberals getting off on killing and hunting deplorables. With maybe 10 minutes tacked on with the deplorables - the ones not dead or dying - ‘winning’.

Yeah, I suspect that either something is afoot or is being missed in the reporting on this movie. I think the plot has a twist that is getting lost in the shuffle.

My guess is that the hunters, who are the true bad guys, are a bunch of Thurston Moore type snooty corporatists. The protagonists are a bunch of red state hicks who ignorantly but loyally vote conservative and perhaps love a Trump-like president. They are of course crude sexists but are led by a strong and enterprising woman in their group to overcome the corporatists. In the end they manage to turn the hunters into the hunted.

They also achieve political enlightenment along the way, coming to realize that their true enemy -- the true elites -- are the right-wing corporatists and red party bigwigs who manipulate and use them against their own interests.

In other words, it's the theme of the book What's the Matter with Kansas set in movie form.
