A perfect target for a GPS signal seeking missile head....
Not a problem, just use some of the older methods of navigation, you know, before GPS.
Oh, that’s right, GPS is all they have now, and all that know how to use
Piracy
So how many ships have wandered off course and been lost to the Iranians since this has been going on?
I was looking at this the other day on a AIS map, and there is not much room for error when passing through the strait. Iranian territory takes the whole north and eastern half of the passage.
This sounds like BS. There are 24 GPS satellites and it takes 3 to determine location. Other than flooding the GPS frequency with noise in the immediate area there is no way to fake the location of the signal. More likely this is a CIA planted story to try and gin up a war in the Middle East.
If only there were ways to navigate ships through straights and channels that didnt rely on electronic gizmos and gadgets... /s
There is also quite a bit of traffic physically dodging each other through this strait. Be pretty easy to give way to traffic and end up in Iranian territory.
Iran has been a pirate nation since the Carter failure.
The Persian Gulf isn’t the only place where this is occurring. The South China Sea is prominent among the others...
Jamming to cause them to go off course is a well known tactic. Iran is led by pirates.
You are negligent if you surrender navigational skills to GPS.
Ships have several RADAR systems onboard. There is no reason to be off course in confined waters!
It’s Boomer time.
ping!
As a former tin can line officer, I can tell you most people have no idea of the shenanigans going on in the Persian Gulf
on BOTH sides...
I sure we have anti-jamming capabilities....so I think this is just propaganda.
If I were Oman, Id smell opportunity. Build a canal to bypass the straight and charge a nice toll.
Ofvious solution - navigate as man has for thousands of years. Use a sextant and compass. My goodness, if Vikings could find England, if Columbus could sail to America, if Polynesians could settle all the Pacific Islands, etc. why can’t modern man steer without GPS?
