Troubling signs for House GOP as retirements mount ahead of 2020 elections
Fox News ^ | 5 August 2019 | Paul Steinhause

Longtime Texas Rep. Kenny Marchant's announcement Monday that he will not seek another term in Congress brings to 11 the number of House Republicans who plan to retire or seek another office in 2020 – a factor that could make it more difficult for the GOP to recapture the majority in next year's elections. The retirement announcement by Marchant – who is serving his eighth term in the House – comes just days after fellow Texan and House Republican Rep. Will Hurd rocked Capitol Hill by announcing he would not run for re-election. Hurd – the only African-American Republican in the House and a former CIA officer who was considered a rising star in the GOP – is a vocal critic of President Trump. Meanwhile, just three House Democrats have announced plans to leave Congress. Texas GOP Reps. Pete Olson and Mike Conaway also recently announced they will not run for re-election. Three of these four retiring GOP Texan lawmakers are in competitive districts that the Democrats now likely have a stronger shot of flipping next year. Also retiring are two of the only 13 GOP women in the House: Reps. Martha Roby of Alabama and Susan Brooks of Indiana (who, despite her own retirement, heads up the National Republican Congressional Committee’s 2020 recruitment efforts.) By comparison, there are currently 89 female Democratic members in the House.

Somethings up.

I pray to God that whatever is being planned behind the scenes to try and bring down POTUS, will be thwarted in the Name of Jesus Christ. No weapon formed against POTUS shall prosper. - Isaiah 54:17

Politicians are not good for much, but they do know how to read their election chances. Their were a lot of retirements in 2018, and the GOP lost the House. I agree, something bad is brewing for 2020.

*************

Despite the advancing age of many House Democrats they stay and fight for what they want, unlike the Republicans who just wither away in the face of the slightest possibility of a challenge.

I wonder how many of these ‘retirements’ are just brownstoned politicians doing as they’re told.

We didn’t think it was just hollywood and royals that visited Little St. James did we?

“Republicans who just wither away in the face of the slightest possibility of a challenge.”

While I agree, I will also note that the fight is much more difficult for a Republican. They face the media, the educational system, and half of the electorate. The half of the electorate they face in opposition has a significant bat poo crazy component.

While its admittedly not easy for Republicans, their up hill battle would be easier if they would band together and fight as a determined and unified force. They refuse to do that.

What’s the problem? This is nothing, compared with what we’d see if there was some form of term limitation.

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that more than a few Republicans have been intimidated into retiring by blackmail. DC is all about power games and the Democrats have unusual access (as we know) to certain databases maintained by the Deep State. They have no qualms about destroying people.

It’s not that interesting being in the minority party in the House of Representatives. A lot of these guys probably figure they could do something else with their lives.

Republicans prefer to be the minority party. Being the majority includes being accountable. Being in the minority allows one to make noise but accomplish nothing.

The power elites have designed our system to work best, fool as many people as possible while keeping them passive, wit a DEM majority passing new world order policies, with GOP minority pretending to defend the American way.

Fact of the matter is people who defend the American way are generally blocked from getting office by the power players in the two party system.

Yes, Republicans dutifully play their subservient role. But there’s more to it.

Many come to Washington with honorable intentions and convictions but they quickly discover the reality that their party is just a shell, playing a bit part in DC politics. But they get attached to their cushy jobs and soon learn the art of big time lying to keep their seats. Most of the GOP is nothing but a bunch of lying charlatans.

That 6-year term limit on committee chairmanships rule is coming to bite the GOP in the butt.

They also take their cushy benefits with them. It’s a good gig, if you can get it.

It can’t get any worse because the Dems currently have the majority in the house. It can only get better. Maybe in all these retirements we will have an opportunity to elect more Jim Jordans. Wouldn’t that be nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Predicting right here - GOP flips 80 seats red in 2020."

I pray every night that the Republicans get a super majority in both Houses of Congress, and especially a larger number of Conservative seats so they can outvote the RINOs who vote along with the Democrats. I would love nothing more than the votes of the RINO's to become obsolete.

Historically, during the midterm election last year, the Republicans should have lost the Senate too, but they didn't, which hopefully bodes well for us.

Same thing that happened in 2018 is playing out again. They are all bailing.
