President Trump delivers remarks on the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

I may need to re-listen to the President, but I don’t remember him saying anything about new background checks per-se. He mentioned the red flag laws, but I don’t consider those in quite the same category. I agree that none of the background checks I’m aware of would have prevented either of these shootings (since none of the shooters had been arrested for crimes limiting their access to guns). To be clear...I think the conversation and brainstorming solutions needs to revolve around the CULTURE OF VIOLENCE (which fuels the MENTAL HEALTH issues at play here). That is the real issue that is being ignored. Our President did a great thing when he mentioned it’s not the gun, but the person pulling the trigger.....
Just read this Tweet
Trump made a big mistake signaling out White Supremists as the cause of these shootings. In the last 10 years these murdering bastards have been every race and color. Hopefully today hell say exactly that. Hate knows no color. @realDonaldTrump
They’re trying to better their lives. Evil white folks try to prevent that. /s
Being radical, as in having conservative views?
He’s seeing if Nancy will put up or shut up
Oh wait ,Nancy is on a European Vacation
Just occurs to me that people may not innately know the point you’re trying to make or data you are referencing.
What I heard was “white supremacists” in regards to the El Paso shooter, based on his manifesto. The Dayton shooter had mental problems.
The legislation as written is so ambiguous that’s it’s difficult to know what’s intended. And that’s why these types of laws are so dangerous. The interpretation of crucial terms becomes arbitrary.
Congressman Michael Burgess said on Fox, following President Trump’s remarks, that the Dems will never work with the Republicans on solutions to the violent sickness affecting America. The Dems want to ban the weapons, not the root problems. The Dems will never give Trump a win because that would benefit him in the 2020 elections.
That’s exactly why I linked to two pieces of legislation already under consideration; people can read it and make up their own minds.
Yup. He is setting up his enemies with rhis.
;-)
No CNN reporter will tell you the shooter was a global warming socialist. I hope Trump does.
He also called out al sharpton as a racist who hates white people. No other Republican had the balls to say that.
....... we were talking about the El Paso dude.
George Washington urged the Swiss system; i.e. arming and training our youth as part of their preparation for responsible citizenship. He specifically recognized the moral character building aspects of the Swiss system. As you may know, Switzerland has, traditionally, had an extremely low crime rate.
Right & Duty To Keep & Bear Arms.
(See, in the above, Washington's sage advice to Congress, It indicates the dangerous omission in 21st Century America. The point is essential to counter the Leftist hand wringing assault on our liberty; an essential key to a truly American future.)
Agree!
That is a problem and always has been.
Mental competence hearings have been abused in the past.
Nothing is perfect. We can keep our present system if you like.
If you want to say, “These mass shootings are exaggerated far beyond the problem they really. Point out that more people were killed in Chicago over the weekend at roughly the same time of these two in Ohio & Texas”.
I will whole heartedly agree with you!
However I still say that the decisions made in the 1970s to adopt the practice of moving the mentally ill out of institutions into society - mainstreaming without accounting for proper supervision & the age of majority was the wrong decision. It harms them & harms society . It was made to save the state money not improve mental health.
Personally, I thought the president’s address was excellent.
As far as actual solutions to this matter, my outlook is bleak.
I think this society is going to come unraveled, because people have become insane and uncivilized.
This is going to get a lot worse despite good men like Mr. Trump sincerely being upset and caring about trying to find a solution.
I don’t know what else to say about it.
