Full title: Yet another shooting at a gun-free zone: El Paso shooting at Cielo Vista Mall is apparently in a place that banned permitted concealed handguns
The Simon Mall chain is well known for banning permitted concealed handguns in Texas.
Possession of any weapon at Simon malls, whether concealed or displayed openly, is in violation of mall policy. This policy is intended first and foremost to maintain a safe, secure and comfortable environment at our malls, which has always been our top priority, and to avoid any situation that could potentially place at risk the safety of our shoppers and employees.
Simon malls are private property, and like virtually every other facility in the community that is accessible by the public, ownership/management has the right to prohibit the possession of weapons, both displayed or concealed, other than licensed weapons carried by law enforcement personnel.

Everyone in Texas knows that they have to the proper posting for the bans to have legal effect. The statements indicate that the mall was properly posted at the entrances. Following the attacks in Gilroy, California or Virginia Beach, this is yet another attack where people were banned from being able to protect themselves. Here is a copy of the malls code of conduct.
This took place at a Walmart which is a separate building in the property
complex. It is not attached to the mall as are other majors stores on the
property. Click the link for a layout of the property.
the problem is not guns. It is ILLITERACY. The shooter(s) could not read “no weapons”. If they could read they would have known that what they did was prohibited. </sarc>
Those rules look like the old gag
“No hunting, no fishing,no pitching tents,no campfires,no firecrackers,no skateboarding,no rollerblades,no loud radio or recorded music,no drug use,no nudity,no motor cycles or motorbikes...
And enjoy your day at the park.
I’m watching Fox news right now and Beto is blabbing away, trying to score political points on the bodies of the murdered.
He’s postively giddy.
Perps don’t read!
My daughter and I won’t go to malls, either. There are too many nuts out there, and “teens” looking to cause trouble.
Any place that actually bans weapons should be subject to a much heightened legal responsibility to protect its patrons. I figure treble any damages might be about right. Eventually the increased insurance costs would remedy the situation.
I personally ignore all such restrictions. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
There was all kinds of speculation when we were alerted to this shooting. Immediately politicians were blaming responsible gun owners in the state and comparing this event to the Walmart shooting a few years ago. Our Congressional Rep, Veronica Escobar, said El Paso deserved better than a repeat of the Walmart event. Down with guns! The judge who testified before Congress recently, reporting El Paso was one of the safest cities in America, said about the same thing. Then the speculation moved to gangs. It had to be gangs, right?
The mall was shut down for safety because the shooter was on the run. They got him. This is one of the most god-awful things that can happen to a small retail store trying to keep its head above water. After Walmart’s massacre, no one wanted to shop in the area. After the pandemic nightmare, no one wanted to shop. After the Biden election, no one could shop.
When this washes out, you will find a group of teens hanging out at the food court who got into a heated discussion. A forbidden-on-the- premises gun was used. Four wounded. One killed.
Shelter in place. We’ve been sheltering in place for decades in America. Still, a nut with access to a weapon, is gonna use it. No matter what that weapon is.
