Ramón Saúl Sánchez, a Cuban pro-democracy leader who has been active in the struggle against communism for 50 years, recently received notice that the U.S. government denied his request for permanent residence in the country. If returned to the island, they will execute me or put me in prison for the rest of my life, Sánchez told Breitbart News.
Sánchez has been in the United States for 52 years. For decades, he has advocated for peaceful acts of resistance against the Castro regime from hunger strikes to highway sit-ins to the iconic flotillas of the Democracy Movement, Sánchezs organization, that have for years crossed into Cuban waters to make the point, Sánchez says, that those waters are ours on behalf of the refugee community.
He became perhaps most recognizable nationwide during the saga of Elián González, a Cuban boy rescued off the waters of Florida in 2000 whom the Castro regime demanded Washington return to the island, despite his mother dying on a raft trying to help him escape. Sánchez organized prayer vigils and human chains outside the home of Gonzálezs Miami relatives meant to keep then-President Bill Clintons Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) from deporting the child. INS agents bludgeoned Sánchez in the head to get him out of the way when Attorney General Janet Reno gave the order to violently abduct González and return him to the communist regime.

What other reason could there be to deny permanent residency to one of the strongest pro-democracy and anti-communist Cuban refugees in Miami?
Time to call congressmen, senators, and advocate for USCIS to reverse their decision.
Take care of this, President Trump.
This is the work of some malcontent, Cubans have had a free pass for decades.
Personally, we should send ALL Cubans home to Cuba so they can fix their island nation. Raphael Eduardo Cruz, Marco Rubio, and all the rest can liberate the island from inside; and to a great extent, we can liberate Florida and other parts of the US. A win-win for all.
Without Cuban voters we lose 2 Senate seats and the Presidency... not smart.
The State Department is permeated with career leftists. That whole organization needs a deep clean sanitizing.
“Take care of this, President Trump.”
Absolutely. If I were Trump, I would protect him, and then give him a position in charge of US-Cuba relations.
Sánchez received special parole as a refugee when he arrived in 1967. He applied to become a permanent resident of the United States in 2002. His application sat in the offices of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for 14 years until 2016 the year President Barack Obama traveled to Cuba and enjoyed the hospitality of dictator Raúl Castro. That year, suddenly, Sánchez received word that his request was denied and he would soon be deported. He appealed the decision, receiving his final negative response in July.
Yes, VERY SUSPICIOUS
This case not only needs to be reversed but also the perps behind it need to be investigated
We can keep the Omars et al but a Cuban refugee is somehow to be sent back to communism?
Fishy fer shure
Terrible story! I hope and pray President Trump will step in. He’ll go straight to the gulag if deported which is what the evil Deep State wants.
No need to "liberate" Florida or any other part of the US from conservative Cuban Americans. They are the people who put Bush and Trump in the White House. Without them Florida would be blue, not red.
It says he applied for permanent status in 2002, then in 2016, after Obama visited Castro, he was denied.
The Democrats are in bed with communists.
Today’s generation doesn’t know of our close longtime relationship with Cuba. It was almost like another US state. Prior to the Castro takeover, the seniors in our Spanish class would go to Havana every other year for a couple of weeks and stay in the homes of the Cuban student’s English class. On the off-year, the Cuban students would visit us. Our school band played the Cuban national anthem for them. President Batista owned and visited two homes right down the street from my house. Tourists to Florida and winter residents would hop over to Cuba for fishing and gambling. Locally, we could place bets on Cuban Bolita and horse racing.
No. The democrats ARE COMMUNISTS!
Most Democrats are communist, they just don’t admit it. I worked for a public employee union in California for years, the management, not a member, and most freely admit they are communist.
It sounds like some Clinton or Obama era holdovers are after this guy for his work to save Elian González.

This is definitely deep state initiated attempt to make the Trump administration deportation policy look “racist”. The allegation by the left has always been that Trump admin. is “racist” against hispanics and people of color. By deporting this guy they kill two birds with one stone. They punish a Cuban conservative and more importantly, they make it look like Trump doesn’t care about legitimate asylum claims but is really seeking to deport as many hispanics as he can.
Along same lines, CBS news was on at my gym while I was working out. I looked up to see them doing a piece on Ronald Reagan allegedly telling then president Nixon that “blacks would still be hanging by their tails from trees”. There was no evidence advanced that it was ever said but the reporter interviewed some old republican politico who said “if true, Reagan should have never said it”. There is no level below which the totalitarians will stoop to advance their agenda.
This is an attempt to separate Trump from very loyal Florida Cuban Republican Cuban supporters if Trump doesn’t step in and block this guy’s deportation. Trump can also argue that if this guy has to go back then Omar has to go back.
The president had better stop this before it takes effect, or FL will turn blue in 2020.
Can we send all the Puerto Ricans that have taken up residence in Florida since Hurricane Maria, also. Because they aren’t showing any signs of wanting to go back and make their island home better.
