Because if the jury lets him off...it just takes one...it will be a massive political victory for the Deep State and Left. And likely it would then taint everything that might happen after as a “witch hunt.”
They can’t afford to come out of the box with a loss. When they go after these people it has to be substantial and it has to be iron-clad.
