The Royal Navy is a shadow of what it used to be thanks to generations of socialist traitors.

July 4th 1776

They did pretty good in 1812 burning the White House..and Waterloo was no pushover.

No, the downfall of the UK was WWI and their ignorant Generals who fought a modern war using 1800 tactics.

In one three day battle the British has over 57,000 casualties! 20,000 killed. Even after this bloody battle they did not change their tactics. WWI was a meat grinder that the British military just fed men into.

If all the healthy, bright young men went off to war who were left to repopulate Britain? Certainly those with less then those that died.

So no, the beginning of the end for the UK was WWI.

I agree. The RN is not even what it was in the Falklands.

Their retreat into socialism is what done them in. It’s just mind blowing, they had ruled the seas for decades if not centuries. Churchill got them out of the WWII mess. So what do they do? Can Churchill and have been spiraling downhill ever since.

IMO they would have recovered from WWII had they not gone the socialist route. Another commenter reasoned their reliance on the US is also a factor - I agree.

Now look at Canada. They are in the same boat as England, just showing less freeboard. The EU? Same as Canada.

Now add internal issues due to illegals in all countries mentioned.

We got the makings of WWIII.

“I’m surprised he hasn’t fallen off his column in Trafalgar Square yet.”

I’m sure Britain’s Marxist/Stalinist/Antifa types are working on that.

No doubt in my mind.

If you take even a casual look at European History they have been in constant wars for over a thousand years. There has been 70 years of “peace” since the end of WWII. Perhaps the longest period of peace in their entire history.

The United States willing to put up the gold and blood to secure Europe’s security is the only reason they have enjoyed this peace.

The condition they have created by inviting their enemies into their countries can only end badly for them.

It is a truth of history that two cultures can not co-exist in the same space and time unless one if overwhelmingly stronger then the other.

The left have been successful in their propaganda that all societies and cultures are “equal” and should be able to co-exist.

Well when one culture demands their followers spread their religion by force and the other is weak and afraid to respond, one is going eliminate the other.

The real question is will the British fight for their lives?

I sometimes think they will just surrender.

The Japanese and Indian navies are far more powerful than the RN today. The Falklands would be impossible for them today.

1.8% of GDP is too low. 3% wouldn't begin to restore the capabilities of the 80's, when spending was 5%, but it would be a good start.

[Add WWII and their retreat into socialism pretty much condemned them to being a third rate power in the world.]

Strategic retards and Soviet fellow travelers in the State Department had diplomats promising components of the British empire than Uncle Sam would help them gain their independence. A big part of British economic power lay in free trade between the components of these empire. Once they became independent, tariffs went up and trade went down, to the detriment of both Britain and its ex-colonies. Given the massive British debts incurred during WWI and WWII, British policymakers had to knuckle under to Washington’s edicts. Eisenhower’s support for Gamal Nasser during the Suez Crisis was just another of his mind-bogglingly dumb foreign policy moves. After that, Uncle Sam became the sole Western power facing off against Soviet expansion around the globe, as all the European powers cut and run from their empires, at great cost to the US Treasury.

Britannia ruleD the waves from 1700 to 1900 and dominated it until 1940 -- not a bad duration of time. the USA has been ruling the waves since 1945 - the rest of the world COMBINED can't compete with the USN.

But the Royal Navy's decline is the norm in the world - before the Brits there were the Spaniards who ruled the waves from 1500 to 1700 and prior to that for some time the Portuguese did.

Power rises and falls.
