At rally, Trump laces into Democrats but avoids race

President Donald Trump used a revved-up rally Thursday in Cincinnati to tear into the Democrats he has been elevating as his new political foils, attacking four liberal congresswomen of color and their party’s urban leaders, while also training fire on those he could be facing in 2020.

But the president mostly avoided the racial controversy that has dominated recent weeks as he basked in front of the raucous crowd for nearly 90 minutes, unleashing broadside after broadside on his political foes. Trump, who had faced widespread criticism for not doing more to stop the chants of “Send her back” about Somali-born Rep. Ilhan Omar at a rally last month, seemed to want to avoid further furor, saying he would prefer his supporters avoid the chant. He largely stuck to a greatest hits performance.

While he did not mention Omar or her three colleagues by name in the opening moments of his Ohio gathering, the target of his attacks was unmistakable.

If you're ever spent any time debating liberal Democrats on various websites you'll quickly find Democrats posting lists of STATES with crime, poverty, bad schools, etc.

The states they list are usually Republican majority or Republican governor states.

Of course, the real break-down of statistics is the cities which Democrats and the Democratic Media Complex gloss over or ignore.

The problems with crime, poverty, and failed schools are mostly in Democrat-run cities.

President Trump has presented us with a hammer to pound our opponents.

Don't let Democrats talk about states. Make them defend their Democrat-run cities.

Point out the problems are not in the state but in cities run by Democrats.

They couldn’t find anything racial in his speech, but had to mention race anyway.

I live in Cincy, and wife and I had plans to attend but the crowd at US bank made me think back to Led Zeppelin 1977 in Cincy. He filled all 16,500 some odd seats w/ overflow and traffic nightmare starting early afternoon. This guy can just plain put butts in seats as they say and I am sure that is what scares the establishment.

I’d agree with that. Wisconsin had a WONDERFUL Republican Governor for 8 GLORIOUS years - and still couldn’t rid The People’s Republik of Milwaukeestan or The People’s Republik of Madistan of the crime - DUE TO DEMOCRATS running those two cities.

Very frustrating for the rest of the state. And yet, never ONCE had either of those Dem Mayors (Barrett or Soglin) asked for Governor Walker’s assistance! They certainly were NOT going to shine the light on their own FAILURES.

And the awful, LEFTIST Media in this state wasn’t about to, either!

No racial controversy except in the minds of race baiting Democrats and their legacy media propagandist.

But the president mostly avoided the racial controversy that has dominated recent weeks...

Maybe that's because Trump and his supporters don't see it the same way as you do, AP!

Also, this reads more like an op/ed to slam Trump than a "report" on the rally...

Democrats and their Media Minions always refer to states instead of cities.

Groups like Media Matters have all the talking points ready to flood any chat room.

In other words he didn’t randomly yell the “N” word like at most rallies? “F” the ap and the rest of the lames stream liars. Sure seems easy for them to tie character and color together doesn’t it. Even though it was never said.

Those Democrat officeholders who, by various kinds of voter manipulation, managed to get elected in districts that by all standards, are lagging far behind the general prosperity of most of America, are largely just deficient in their reasoning powers or any kind of critical thinking, and are without any skills in solving problems in their district, instead relying on “community organizers” to keep the voters in line, suppressing the votes of the most discontented, and subtly suggesting that some ominous and largely faceless “outsiders” were to blame for the oppression that weighs so heavily on their neighborhoods.

Incompetence should not be rewarded, yet it is happening on a daily basis.

What racial controversy? The only people identifying anyone by race or skin color are Democrats.

.At rally, Trump laces into Democrats but avoids race (AP)

Talk about a gas-lighting title. Typical AP fake-news headline/title.

Unlike the democrats, President Trump has never used the race card. Policies, behavior, words, actions and inaction are fair game for President Trump. Today's democrat response to ANY criticism or challenge is that the one calling them out is a racist.

I would like to believe that democrats could learn something from the Aesop fable, 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' but that would require people with comprehension skills and some sense of right and wrong - qualities absent in democrats.

Yup, just another headline in the put out innuendo without having to support it. He also did not mention any absence of tropical storms in the Pacific nor any mention of volcanic activity in Maine.

Our wonderful President did a great service to the whole country by shining a spotlight on Baltimore as representative of Democrat failure. Got nothing to do with race and everything to do with Democrat corruption. MAGA!

I wonder why all of a sudden the AP doesn’t imply racism to everything Trump as they always do? Loss of readership perhaps?-)

Tango,

“They couldn’t find anything racial in his speech, but had to mention race anyway.”

There wasn’t anything about “race” in his earlier statements, either! The media finds a way to inject race, racist and racism in there attacks against President Trump whether or not race is involved.

I half expect them to say, “Trump didn’t bring up race, but he wanted to.”
