So you want to make jokes about a depressed 22 y/o girl dying?

Knowing basically nothing about her I'm not inclined to do so.However:

Some years ago you may recall an incident involving rape and William Kennedy Smith. While commenting to reporters on the story his uncle,the senior Senator from Chappaquiddick,said something like "well,in a big Irish family like ours you're bound to have a few difficult situations". (Not an exact quote).

Well,my family is every bit as big as theirs.And my family is every bit as Irish as theirs (both my parents were born in Ireland).

However,not a *single* member of my large Irish family has ever been a heroin addict (or any kind of addict). Not a single member of my family has ever died of a heroin OD. Not a single member of my family has had a young woman die in his or her car. Not a single member of my family has ever been convicted of murder.Not a single member of my family has ever been accused of rape.Not a single member of my family has ever crippled a woman (or man) in car he/she was driving. And not a single member of my large Irish family has ever been accused of diddling a 13 year old babysitter.

I've lived here all my life.My guess is that I know more about the Kennedys than you do.Perhaps a lot more.This dead girl may not have been "depraved"....but if not she is certainly the *product* of depravity.

The article is about the girl dying, not the history of the Kennedys. You should thank your lucky stars that no one has a drug problem or depression in your family.

So William Kennedy Smith is a self-hating Uncle Seamus, on top of it all? I think it’s time for the People of the Shamrock to disown the entire disreputable clan of Kennedy, not that it’s any of my affair. But some demons must be exorcised.

I was recovering from surgery when he was interning at Georgetown Hospital. He was making the rounds with a group, one of whom felt compelled to exclaim "he's a Kennedy". He appeared to be annoyed/embarrassed.

Well said. I had a friend who was involved in the Michael Kennedy Smith trial. Without giving too many details, I will say that this person was a witness for the prosecution. This person had experienced a devastating personal loss - the worse kind a parent could experience. The Kennedy lawyer tried to use that loss as a means to impugn the character of the witness as if the experience would cause them to have an automatic bias against Kennedy. Now, I realize that it was the lawyer doing it but had it been me discussing strategy with my attorney, that would have been off limits.

Unrelated to the above but whenever the Kennedy’s come up I’m always reminded of something about the Kennedy Palm Beach estate....it was (don’t know if it ever changed) nothing to write home about. No central air and the furnishing were pretty shabby. I found it interesting that, like the Kennedys, the exterior facade belied the interior degradation.
