NSC expresses grave concern over North Korea test
By Jung Da-min
North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) into the East Sea, Wednesday morning, the latest in a series of missile tests off its eastern coastal area since May.
These latest launches came six days after a similar test of two missiles last week.
Hours after the missile tests, Cheong Wa Dae convened an emergency National Security Council (NSC), presided over by National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong.
"We expressed grave concerns over the firing of the missiles, which could have a negative impact on peace-building efforts," the presidential office said in a statement following the NSC meeting. It added, however, that it will continue diplomatic efforts to keep up the momentum for denuclearization talks following the June 30 meeting of the leaders of the two Koreas and the United States.
The two missiles were launched from the Wonsan-Kalma area in Gangwon Province into the East Sea, flying northeast for 250 kilometers at an altitude of about 30 kilometers, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). They were launched at 5:06 a.m. and 5:27 a.m. respectively. The JCS added that they flew into seas off the Hodo Peninsula in South Hamgyong Province, from where it said the missiles were launched in its initial announcement.
"We are analyzing the possibility that it (the launch on July 31) could be of similar type to the SRBMs launched last week," a JCS official said. "The missiles were fired from transporter erector launchers (TELs)."
He noted that North Korea has been conducting a series of missile test launches at relatively low altitudes since May.
The official said the JCS was monitoring the recent activities of North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un, who observed last week's missiles launches from the same area.
Following the missile tests, Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo told a forum hosted by the state-run Korea Institute of Defense Analyses (KIDA) at the Westin Chosun Seoul that the military was maintaining its readiness to counter possible threats from the North.
"The North Korean regime and military will be included in the concept of enemy if the threats and provocations they pose are directed at us," Jeong said, dismissing concerns that South Korea's military has been lax regarding security amid ongoing diplomatic efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Varying their trajectories and distances, in effort to evade THAAD and other allied air defense measures. Nuke warhead-capable, little to no doubt.
Does rocket man order such tests? Or do North Korean leaders have the authority? Are these tests random or is it part of a pre-established schedule, a protocol for testing that they are following?
Every time we here of this are we to think WWIII is imminent? Or is Rocket man a poker player with a big do trying to leverage the best deal with DJT?
I think it’s fine to try to talk peace and avoid war but the little plick Nork leader will never give up his weapons. Their goal is to unify the Korean peninsula with Him in charge!
Put the person in the reentry vehicle, shoot missile off towards the sea.
Out of sight, out of mind.
>>but the little plick Nork leader will never give up his weapons
The double-cross that Obama and Hillary did to Gaddafi made sure of that. The guy gave up his WMD program to Bush and look what that got him.
I very much hope Trump succeeds in getting Kim to give up his weapons, but have little hope due to the above.
Deep state
Scud/V2 Clones were launched as a theatrical production
The missiles are probably old inventory that is in effect valuless
As for a set testing schedule? That's anybody's guess. I kind of doubt it. I don't know that their development program has the engineering rigor to have a pre-planned (months and years in advance) testing schedule. Part of that is probably limitations of their program, part of that is the shifting nature of sanctions, help (legal or not)...
Even if they have a schedule - even a few days or weeks in advance - I seriously doubt they would publicize it. I *think* a few times they have actually "played nice" on the international stage and issued warnings/notices to mariners and airmen 24 or 48 hrs in advance - ie. watch out, we're splashing down boosters / RVs here... Now, if we do know about their tests in advance, it is probably due to intel efforts that no-one will confirm or deny or comment on in any way. Grin, I don't need to know, don't want to know, don't want that info out and about... Because if they could confirm that we knew...what we know and when we know it might eventually lead them to find our source, if we have one...
China is the puppet master. They are upset that President Trump hasn’t caved on trade and tariffs.
Hence the wink and the nod to Lil’ Kim.
1. It is at his personal direction. There is no fissure within the party and state, nor military apparatus he commands. No rogue element here at play. In fact, KJU is on hand personally, directing and as fully reported in their media. This, so soon after shaking hands with POTUS and all the sweet talk and glad handing.
2. No, it is not WWIII. However it is a serous UN violation and North /South Panmunjom agreement violation. It is a positioning and posturing but it is also perfecting weapons systems of his which directly threatens US troops, their families and civilians, and the populace of our allies S Korea and Japan.
He feels emboldened. When he is afraid and reigned in, he is very quiet and restrained. He went to underground bunker for days on end when we put our foot down. Same with dad. He is anything but these days.
Yes, it would go nuclear....
South Korea Fail ,it didn’t suck up enough to the North
