CHICAGO (WLS) -- An Illinois congressman and his wife ran from gunfire at the Gilroy Garlic Festival as shots rang out Sunday night.

"The shooter was not far from us as we heard loud 'pops,' which seemed to get closer as we ran," U.S. Representative Dan Lipinski (D- Chicago and southwest suburbs) said in a statement. "We are very thankful to law enforcement. The tragedy would have been far worse if not for their quick action."

He’s my congress critter. He lives down the street from me. I have never voted for him, but I do give him credit when we had a ton of local break in’s with a few residents being injuried a few years back he went door to door telling us all “If you have one, use it!” I am in Crook County, that’s a big no-no...

If you are armed but not tactically trained, it is better to seek cover and wait for the shooter to come to you or for him to be neutralized by law enforcement
Walking toward the shooting risk being surprised by and killed by the shooter.
In the 1930’s movies they ran towards the gunfire ,shooting in the hallway they would come out of their room and go towards it

Lipinski is a notorious gun-grabber. He’ll be screeching for the repeal of the 2nd Amendment any minute now, I’m sure.
Major LIKE. Unarmed, courageous as I am (/s), I would not run toward gunfire.
If he said that he must have changed his position because he’s been quite vocal about passing new gun laws.
...or shot by the Police if they are already on-site.
When they do arrive, they are likely to put down anyone with a visible weapon who does not look like another Police officer. Even other officers may be at risk from "friendly fire".
If you are going to do the heroic thing, best get it done quickly and then re-holster your weapon. Might not want to hang around either. In any event, don't talk. That will only get you in more trouble. Call your lawyer.
