I don't see how Disney can be blamed by the disaster that was "Dark Phoenix." The movie had essentially been completed by Fox before Disney acquired rights to to Fox's Marvel properties.

The only one of those I saw was Captain Marvel and it was merely okay.

I like “comic book” movies generally but CM just wasn’t all that to me. Good for Disney, I suppose. The House of Nutria is still growing!

Rio Bravo is my favorite of all the Duke movies. I lost track of how many times I saw it, and will watch it again if it comes on.

I really like comic book movies. Have wished for good ones since I was 9 years old.

Haven’t seen CM or Black Panther and probably won’t until Disney+ starts streaming. I want Disney+ mostly because I want to see their announced series that will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically Loki, Falcon/Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Hawkeye. I think I read it will be $2.99/month to start and I’m willing to pay that for a while.

Marvel’s Black Panther is black, and always has been. Apparently there was a storyline when some white dude impersonated and called himself black panther, but there is only one real Black Panther: T’Challa, son of T’Chaka. I was there and bought the July 1966 FF#52 when he was introduced.

I was collecting comics in 1962 - less than a year after former Atlas (itself former Timely) became Marvel and published The Fantastic Four #1. I would be willing to bet I am more knowledgeable about comics history (from before Action #1 of 1938, including its pulp precursors, and especially including Seduction of the Innocent, the Senate Hearings, and formation of the Comics Code Authority in 1954) than anyone on this forum.

Can you name the debut comic (title, year, month) for Captain Marvel [Kree Mar-Vell]? Did you buy it off the stands? Can you name the debut issue for Carol Danvers? Did you buy it off the stands? Can you name the artist of each?

I did. I know. I know more than you about what they have done, and what they are doing. When someone like me says nay, someone like you would do well to pay attention.

I saw most of the Phases 1-3. I own some of the DVDs. I especially enjoyed the Captain America trilogy.

I enjoy both The Lord of the Rings (the three books) and Journey into Mystery with The Mighty Thor. I enjoy both Johann Sebastian Bach and The Beach Boys. I am not a snob.

However, I am now done with Disney/Marvel. They have openly, repeatedly said their agenda is to aggressively promote the erotic aberrations of the left. I am not going to pay them to insult and propagandize me.

I hated what they did to Thor - and yes, it was pure propaganda. They would never have so humiliated the heroic icons, Black Panther (a black male) or Captain Marvel (a white female). They turned a 1500-year-old Norse God into a 30-year-old Couch Potato.

Journey into Mystery became Journey into Misery. The Mighty Thor became The Mighty Boor. The God of Thunder became The God of Blunder.

Furthermore, the gratuitous scene of Captain America compassionately counseling a homoerotic male was more propaganda. That was a direct assault on conservative Christians: See? Steve Rogers is truly moral, not a hateful bigot like you Christians.

Uh huh, sure: The most conservative, traditional, and patriotic character in all of comics would blithely accept homoeroticism as a virtuous, natural thing. I am supposed to just buy that - and buy a ticket to see more of that?

It is Disney’s war on the heterosexual, conservative white male: the communistic redistribution of nobility and authority away from the heterosexual, conservative white male to anyone not that.

Past success is no guarantee of future success. Disney has already damaged Star Wars. If they Go Solo too much with Marvel, they will start to have losers at the box office.

I’m pretty sure the artist of the first Captain Marvel comic was Gene Colan. I’m thinking the character Carol Danvers first appeared in Captain Marvel #1.

Yes, I bought it off the stands. I could cheat and look up the answers to your questions but because you sound like you may be close to being as big a comic book connoisseur as I, I won’t.

I used to buy Marvel (or Timely/Atlas) comic books beginning with their “monster mags” Tales of Suspense, Tales to Astonish, Journey into Mystery and others

My first Marvel super-hero book was Incredible Hulk #1. I bought it for 2 cents at a locksmith shop with the cover torn off.

My first FF was #4, “The Coming of the Sub-Mariner.”

My first Spider-Man was Amazing Spider-Man #2. I started reading Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man ever since they debuted in Journey Into Mystery, Tales of Suspense, and Tales to Astonish, respectively.

Before the Atlas/Timely/Marvel mags I read DC super-hero comics. I drifted away from them not long after I got hooked on Marvel.

I learned how to read before starting kindergarten by my mother teaching me using Little Lulu comics and my older brother’s Dick and Jane readers.

I read countless Disney, Harvey and Archie comics. I read Rawhide Kid, Two-Gun Kid and Kid Colt Outlaw. I read the Archie super-hero comics (The Fly was one of my favorites).

Most of my knowledge of comics pre-1950’s I learned after the fact.

I won’t pretend to be the premier FR expert on comic books, but I know a lot and own 10’s of thousands of them.

And you haven’t seen squat enough to know what I know or what I believe about the direction of the Marvel movies. I’m concerned, but have been mostly quiet about it. I’ve chosen not to see Captain Marvel and I’m concerned about what I see coming up. I’m not going to get bent out of shape about something I haven’t seen yet and, as always, I’ll ignore what I’m not interested in.

The next phase of Disney Marvel is going to be so woke that they will lose their shirts.

There’s a treasure trove of Marvel mythology yet to be fleshed out. Literally thousands of characters.

I’m apprehensive because Feige et al have been promoting that they will be becoming more “inclusive.”

They’re due, maybe overdue, for a bomb. By that, I mean at some point they will make a movie that doesn’t make a profit.

It won’t take more than one or two bombs to cause them to refocus, I don’t think.
