It was a different era. It’s like nailing people for supporting GHW Bush over Clinton in 1992.
Trump peeled back the curtain on the farce that the Bush’s are, and it was hard for some people. W’s demeanor after 9-11 endeared him to a lot of people. And to his credit, he earned it. But he squandered that goodwill.
The S. Carolina debate where Trump ripped the Bush’s was jarring, but was totally necessary to knock the Neocon out of a lot of the right.
“Trump peeled back the curtain on the farce that the Bushs are, and it was hard for some people”
THANK YOU! you should write a book, I have not heard the essence of the 2016 campaign explained so succinctly.
For me, it drove me crazy that he wouldn't defend himself. I did this Photoshop a few years back I think that illustrates my irritation perfectly:
His sidling up to Bill Clinton is what did it for me.
1. GW did squander his good will after 911. But good Republicans continued to support him.
2. He allowed the Dems to rip him day after day with no response. I did not disagree with that strategy at the time.
3. Jeb should never have run for President. He began the decline of the Bush name.
4. More infuriating I believe more than anything was the non support and antagonism towards Donald Trump from the Bush family, GWB included, after he became the nominee. THis after his fawning and non disagreement with the Obamas. I think that cooked all of us and opened our eyes to the Bushes.
