Hoping to reach African-American voters nationally in his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday toured the West Baltimore neighborhood where Freddie Gray was arrested and likened the poverty he observed to that of the Third World.
The independent senator, who describes himself as a democratic socialist, walked the streets of Sandtown-Winchester for about 20 minutes, joined by community leaders and a swarm of cameras that mostly blocked his view of boarded rowhomes and crumbling marble steps. A handful of residents joined the spectacle, and occasionally broke out in chants of Gray's name.
The scene provided dramatic visuals of the economic inequality Sanders has made the center of his campaign, offering a new backdrop from which to argue for a higher minimum wage, tuition-free public college and tougher federal regulations of the nation's banking sector.

Will Pelosi call him a racist, too?
Baltimore political leadership is just about 100% Dem and black. And these pols just fight over the ever-diminishing spoils of ruling a dying city. Yes, a dying city, and I dont think its ever coming back, because I dont see how it can possibly be turned around. There are gentrified pockets, but the high crime areas surround them, and crime doesnt respect boundaries between gentrified areas and the hood. The schools are a disaster, despite the many millions poured into them (where does it all go?). Porperty taxes are extrememly high. Okay for young singles to enjoy the hipster life, but no place to raise a family. My niece and her husband moved into the city less than two years ago, Federal Hill. They are already sick of it and looking to move out.
Don't you understand? The problems exist because the federal government has not given them enough money! /sarcasm
Thanks to politicians like him.
It was. And is to a certain extent. But travel a couple blocks east or north and you are in the war zone.
That photo is just a tiny part of the decay in Baltimore.
Im going to use a quote from Cool Hand Luke.
Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men.
In other words, this how AfroAmericans want this, as evidenced by the mayors actions/inactions. No change. Even when they are in charge, nothing changes. Yet Whitey is to be held accountable.
“While I dont know our test scores from back then, we were one of the better schools. Today, it has 1% white students and can score barely a 25% proficiency. Thank you, liberals.”
Sounds very diverse and vibrant!

Baltimore gets a disproportionate amount of handouts because it’s close to DC...
So President Trump was doing Bernie Sanders?
That clip should be top of its own thread, IMO.
Plus, let’s hear more, lots more, about the lovely Kimberly Klacik.
Talk about “intersectionality.”
Bernie agreeing with Trump.
Bwahaha.
At last Bernie says something we agree on. My late mother’s comment on what happened to where she grew up in DC was ‘The (word censored) ruin everything they touch.’
This was a smart move on Bernie’s part...waaaaay too subtle for the democrat party to have come up with...
A city run by Democrats for the last forever years just like other failed cities. Really what have you got to lose in supporting Trump worse abjective poverty?
Have you tried the I don’t feel no Waze tired app?
It fits... no reason to give ownership of the phrase to liberals.
My thoughts too - The Bern just helped President Trump bitch-slap Elijah....
