Federal data released Thursday show serious incidents of violence in the nation’s public schools are on the rise at the same time more schools are employing Obama-era “restorative justice” disciplinary policies and nearly all schools are touting “social emotional learning” (SEL) practices.
A report released by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), an arm of the U.S. Education Department (USED), used data from a sample of 4,803 public schools that participated in the 2017-2018 School Survey on Crime and Safety.

The educators were asked about factors limiting their efforts to reduce or prevent crime in schools:
1. inadequate funds (36%)
2. lack of alternative placements or programs for disruptive students (34%)
3. federal, state, and district policies on disciplining special education students (19%)
#1 and #2 both mean SEND MORE MONEY. #3 begins to get at the root cause of the problem, but focuses on “special education students.” The discipline problem is FAR wider than that and, in low-performing schools is probably caused by half or more of students, not just SPED kids. Then, where is the mention of the breakdown of the family and lack of fathers in the kids lives?

The “Board of Education” was not people in the school I went to. I never got to get up close and personal with it. A quick slap to the side of the head was usually enuff to make me pay attention.

Peace Circles are all the rage in Social Emotional Learning circles, so to speak. All part of the restorative justice mandates the Obama - Eric Holder regime put in place. In practice somehow these pseudo Native American therapy encounter groups are supposed to correct the behavior of violent unsocialized feral youth who prey on others.
The other current fad is “Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome”, which attributes this fatherless, multi-generational welfare behavior to the legacy of slavery that is passed on.
Not practical or desired for most American families.
Better option is to take back the schools THAT WE PAY FOR and strike down the policies that are failing.

From what I know, Federal and State laws generally don’t allow taking disruptive students out of the mainstream school population. Because students can’t learn outside the classroom. No matter, if disruptive students are kept in classrooms, no one is learning.
Removal stunts the disruptive students self-esteem. And is mostly racist. And if disruptive students are persons of color, the disruption is only due to white privilege, racism, or residual effects of slavery that ended seven generations ago.
Number 2 in my days was called boot camp. Wtf, program FOR disruptive students? How about programs for a disrupted society?

The Obama-era “restorative justice” disciplinary policies mentioned are directly descended from a formal Broward County School System and Sheriff’s Office policy called The Broward Promise. This brain-dead policy was a direct contributor to the Parkland shootings, as without this policy that kid would have been dealt with long before the shooting.
