WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States and Guatemala signed a so-called safe third country immigration asylum agreement on Friday just days after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on the Central American country if it did not agree to the deal.
Speaking to reporters at the White House during a signing ceremony, Trump said the agreement would allow easier access to farmer workers for U.S. farms and ranches.
Guatemala's President Jimmy Morales was due to sign a deal with Trump last week that would have made the country act as an asylum buffer zone to reduce immigration to the United States.

Well played, Mr. President. Now hold every nickel of their aid until full compliance is verified.

WINNING!!!
Winning.
“Trump said the agreement would allow easier access to farmer workers for U.S. farms and ranches”
LOL. If this is his re-election strategy, it stinks.
Picture caption: "Torn bag tags are seen on the floor after the arrival of Guatemalan migrants from the United States, in Guatemala City" What delicious suffering over at the AP.
A kiss on the hand is quite continental, but a scrotum kick is our country's best friend...
These Central American countries should be paradises. All they have to do is get rid of the government corruption, the drug trafficking, and give their people freedoms that we enjoy here. Nobody ever talks about how corrupt their governments are.
The US needs transient farm workers, who will work in the summer. US citizens are not willing to work farms for the price farmers can pay. That means foreign workers. At least until farms become automated.
Teens, like I was, did that work.
Parents need to get the kids out in the summer.
I will say that minimum wage laws are not helpful for this. $15 an hour is not worth it for teens.
I love that POTUS fights FOR America.
First in my lifetime.
The man has more energy than I’ve had in my lifetime.
Are you kidding me?
MORE WINNING!
We need to bring back convict labor and public executions.
Lets go back to citizenship must demand whatever it takes to make a foreigner speak understandable English, the language of the United States...we could take a page out of the (Austrian Citizenship Act (1985) which demands a compliance of rules for becoming a citizen. Too often, new American citizens are allowed to more or less be displaced persons, Americans by address only...rather than help them become a well prepared citizen in so many months.
America needs strong citizens who can provide for themselves. America is not a welfare nation. If you can't provide for yourself and your family in a reasonable time, well...there's the door.
Broadway lyric of the day!
WINNING..but commies are gonna scream “NO this cant happen, we need these illegals here so we can give them freebies to give Democrat”
This matches the Reagan strategy in the ‘80s It was a fine policy then and it’s a fine policy now. A rising tide lifts all boats works between friendly countries too. But not when you’re being abused with a poor, diseased or criminal refuge dump.
It was a GREAT presser!
Thank you Mr.President!
Guatamala had to act because the threat of tariffs, even if they are delayed by the US courts, causes business poeple to avoid risk and to steer clear of the tariff target. Also recentl history has shown that even if the courts delay the imposition of tariffs by president Trump they still get enacted and then they don’t just go away.
You talking about the United States? At this point it is painfully obvious that Team Pelosi and the DNC are getting a HUGE bite of the drug trafficking apple through our porous border.
If what Team Obama attempted to do to Trump and Team gNadler's HOUSE CONTINUE to try and do to Trump isn't government corruption, I don't know what is.
