McConnell Just Moved to Approve a Hell of a Lot of Judges
Townhall ^ | 25 July, 2019 | Cortney O'Brien

Conservatives may find solace in the judicial effort Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made today. As he unveiled next week's agenda, McConnell moved to vote on the lifetime appointments of 19 district court judges... - and they are likely to be confirmed.

I’ve compared the Senate Republican caucus to a Romper Room full of egos*. Those people all get to vote when they’re in the Senate and short of torture, no leader is going to force them to do a damn thing.

So what’s McConnell to do. He has 2 choices, he can publicly embarrass them and still not get his way, or he can simply not bring up stuff (like ending the filibuster overall), and make it look, somewhat, like McConnell is the problem.

I prefer McConnell doing what he’s doing, because he is getting the votes he needs for virtually EVERY JUDGE, and like it or not, that is the ONLY constructive thing coming out of Congress at this point, but also the most pressing issue in the country today, even more important than Illegal Immigration - since the judges are running the show even on that.

*think McCain when he was alive and Lindsey Graham 1.0, and now Romney, and then Murkowski who actually believed Balsy over Kavenaugh, and then Collins who needed to put on a drama act before voting for Kavenaugh, Rand Paul, Jeff Flake, who held up something like 20 judges at the end of last year, and now even Ted Cruz

Re: Frightening to whom?

A voice vote occurs when there is overwhelming support for one side or the other.

Since all 26 voice votes confirmed a nomination, that means the Democrats voted overwhelmingly for 26 of Trump’s District judges.

That by itself is frightening.

But at least 20 Democrats voted for another 32 Trump judges, which makes it downright frightening.

“Trump’s District judges look downright frightening...58 of the 86 nominations were confirmed by a voice vote or with the support of at least 20 Democrat Senators.”

I wouldn’t call it ‘frightening’ and I’m not even sure it’s bad. If go you back to at least Bush Sr., when I started following this crap, the Democrat Senate sailed through virtually every District Judge, but when it came to Appellate Judges, it was TOTALLY DIFFERENT, and nominations languished for years and in many cases they expired and the seats were filled by Clinton. In other words the Democrats FIGHT MUCH HARDER at the higher levels. I have no reason to suspect that it’s any different now. Trump is getting his nominees from the Federalist Society, and there are very few conservative voices complaining about his overall picks (in fact, I can’t think of a single one).

Having said that, I will concede there have been some screw-ups, like when he almost let Wifi have two 9th Circuit picks in exchange for letting some others through, but people spoke up and IT WAS STOPPED and Trump’s picks for that court are better than any Republican before him, and it’s just starting to show up in some of their judgements. And yes, I’m sure Trump let some crappy District Judges through...but not too many, but what Republican president has done better - even Reagan put Sandra Dee on the Supreme Court?

The knives don’t come out for District Court Judges. Once you get to the Circuit Court level, that’s when the fighting really starts.

“McConnell backed down and gave in for Schumer’s home state. Maybe an olive branch but with conditions?”

That is what I suspect - that Schumer had to provide things of value to sway the Judge picks in New York, that he used to control for free with blue slips.

Schumer is a backroom wheeler/dealer, and he does have a lot to offer, as the Democrat leader in the Senate. We will probably never know what he gave up, but the President knows him well for a long time, and the President knows how to drive a hard bargain.

Senate is going on vacation. So these are the last judges for at least a couple months.

Thats pretty hilarious.

If this guy has done anything right, its been judges. The country will be in better shape for 20+ years with sane people on the bench.

What drives McConnell and others on the judge issue, unyielding like the Terminator.

Scalia was murdered and the Deep State/Obama had him targeted for the swing judge Merrick Garland was designated to be. NSA database was used to secretly find the opportune time. Alone in a secluded hunting lodge on friendly deep state turf.

Asphyxiation in his sleep and body quickly cremated with no autopsy to get in the way. He has a living current wife. How could they prevent her from demanding an autopsy.

He was not a homeless nobody. A living active Supreme Court justice. Our side knows the truth. That is what drives Trump to hit hard and deep.

When is our side going to employ death squads. An eye for an eye. Must have one thousand eyes to make up for by now.

We need our own Star Chamber.

Knives come out? You ain’t seen nothing yet.

Purging the deep state, draining the swamp. Will get no ideas from Hollywood on this.

Over decades saboteurs have been embedded through the govt. Masses of them funded on regular and overtime pay all across departments and agencies. Resisting and preventing oversight by any means necessary.

This is being done with impunity, unaccountable and protected at the same time. 24/7 focus on destroying America from within. They have no fear of repercussions.

Judges of the 9th circuit, sanctuary cities, worst income inequality, homelessness en mass and generating medieval diseases.

California major topic in 2020 races. All house and Senate races, not just POTUS.

Not sure where you inferred I was bashing McConnell at all to warrant such trashing from you. If you look at my post history, i think you’d find that am very pro McConnell with regards to judges and have praised him quite a bit.

I just sometimes look at his face and demeaner and find it hard to believe that he wields such power.

Thats all.

Just one battle in the war.
Like all other such rulings POTUS & DOJ will pursue this to the Supreme Court. That is why it is essential that POTUS fill the 1 open 9th Circuit position and those of the two Bush Justices that have announced they will be moving to senior status, with young conservative judges. Those three slots filled will improve the chances of 3 justice panels ruling according to law not “social justice.”
