Syphilis was all but eradicated not too long ago. But that was before "gay rights" really got going.

A buddy of mine worked in a hotel. Every year there was this big weeklong gay event. They would bring out this purple couch and take the nice one out of the lobby. He asked why they did it for that week. Without missing a beat, the guy pulled out an infrared light and it was covered with stains. His boss basically said that the lesbians were cool, but the gay men would screw everything....which is why strays run and hide during that week.

Syphillis was mostly a gay disease in the years just before the AIDS era. Then the initial wave of AIDS scared them out of high risk sex. Now that HIV treatment has converted AIDS from a certain horrid death to a chronic nuisance they are back to their high risk behavior. I wonder if this means the gay population thinks HIV care has progressed to a ‘good enough’ level so that we no longer need to spend research dollars, well beyond its proportional national health benefits, to further advance such care? And whether they think as much government financing of HIV care is needed?
Is there any proportion to the muslim population/refugees? The article doesn’t say but there MIGHT be a correlation here.

A friend of mine who has been divorced from her ex for five years just got hold of his medical records and found he’d recently been diagnosed with late latent syphilis. They shot him full of penicillin. They say they can cure it, but after doing a lot of research on the web, there’s not a lot of info about late latent syphilis and I speculate that it’s never really completely cured. Hopefully it’s cured enough so you can’t give it to anyone else.
She tested negative, but false negatives are very common. It’s been five years since she’s been with him; he left her for the most disgusting skank—in your wildest dreams you could not conjure the grossness of this .... woman. Arms and body covered with tattoos, Ubangi lips, hugely inflated boobs. Ugh!
But there’s very little information about late latent. And then, how did the doctor know it was “late latent?” Is it a guess?
If my arithmetic is correct, that means MSM are at least 30 times more likely to be infected, than straight men. MSM are over 50 times as likely to be infected, than all women. (I assumed MSM to be 4% of the total population, and women to be 52% of the total population.)
The worst part is that we might be seeing more antibiotic resistance / immunity from syphilis in coming years.
