A fake presidential seal appeared behind President Trump onstage at an event for conservative student group Turning Point USA this week.
The fake seal was only briefly visible as Trump walked onstage, replaced by the authentic one for the remainder of the speech, but an aide to TPUSA has reportedly been fired over what was either a startling error or a deliberate prank.
Here are four differences between the genuine seal and the one that appeared behind the president on Tuesday.
The eagle
While the presidential seal features a standard eagle, the one behind Trump this week featured a double-headed eagle. Double-headed eagles are typically associated with empires and have appeared in other countries iconography as well, including the coats of arms of the Austrian Empire and Serbia.
Resemblance to the Russian federation coat of arms
In addition, the eagle makes the false seal bear a resemblance to the coat of arms of the Russian federation, which is itself based on the coat of arms used in Czarist Russia. The original double-headed eagle coat of arms was discontinued after the Russian Revolution in 1917 in favor of the recognizable Soviet hammer and sickle imagery but the eagle was restored in 1992 after the dissolution of the USSR.
The motto
The standard presidential seal bears the national motto E pluribus unum, Latin for out of many, one. The fake seal behind Trump at the TPUSA event instead featured the phrase 45 es un títere, Spanish for 45 is a puppet. Trump famously pushed back against his then-opponent Hillary Clintons characterization of him as a puppet of Russian president Vladimir Putin at the 2016 presidential debates.
The eagles claws
While the eagle on the real seal bears several arrows in its right talon, the one on the doctored seal is bearing golf clubs, an apparent reference to Trumps frequent visits to the several golf clubs he owns. Trump has spent 210 days at his golf properties while in office, according to NBC's tracker.
If you attend a conservative event, always be on the lookout for provocateur.
I wish organizers of these events would be more aware of these attacks.
Too many people get lulled into complacency because they believe they're among like-minded people and they let down their guard.
The enemy never takes a break.
Dox the little bastard who did that, make him/her/zem unemployable.

Are you kidding? The libs would be lining up to hire him.
That was no prank. The resemblance to the Russian seal is clear. The golf clubs are obvious. I can’t read the writing, but it is not E PLURIBUS UNUM. Probably some Russian letters.
“Trump has spent 210 days at his golf properties while in office, according to NBC’s tracker.”
Did they track the times Obozo played golf? It was about nine percent of his time.
Have to admit - the golf clubs were pretty funny.

I’m probably in the minority but I find pranks like this mildly amusing.
They have bigger fish to fry in terms of security and such.
Don’t get me wrong, just as I am saying it’s harmless in the way of pranks, I think it’s all in good fun to catch them at it too, so by all means be on the look out. It would be great fun to catch a prankster in the act.

I think the culprit has been removed from the organization. From there it is vandalism or desecration of a national symbol. Criminal charges?
Oh darn, I missed this cute little graphics manipulation because I was watching the whole collusion-obstruction thingy collapse under the weight of Mueller’s eye bags.
The people at Turning Point USA were infiltrated.
It seems people at TPUSA let their guard down and this creep had free reign and no oversight.
On a side note, I'd consider changing the name. While TP stands for Turning Point it's also an abbreviation for toilet paper.
Here's a CBS news story from late in Obama's eighth year in office talking about his 300th round of golf - link
But Obama also golfed. So they make no point.
To me, the problem with "pranks" like this is that somebody got close enough to the event equipment to substitute the projection of the seal with a prank seal.
It makes me wonder if this suggests that somebody could get close to other equipment, say lighting for instance, and substitute an IED that looks like a light bulb into a fixture on the stage.
It's not the prank, it's the ability of someone to get close enough to the event to tamper with the equipment that should be concerning.

I really have to give props to whoever thought of that and pulled it off. Grudging admiration.
Kind of like the Chinese signs behind Nixon that Dick Tuck pulled off.
Worth stealing.
For Trump, golf is a tool. He takes people out on the golf course to get them to relax and talk. The Japanese prime minister, Rush Limbaugh, and others golf with Trump. He forms friendships and makes deals.
There will be tears aplenty for them to cry on the night of November 3, 2020. Tears and gnashing of teeth and rending of garments. A record breaking spike in suicides is a given.
Sweet!
It also sounds too much like CPUSA.
I think it is kind of funny with the golf clubs too, but I wouldn’t lift a hand to help the person responsible if they were being eaten by Great White sharks off Chatham Beach.
Actually, on second thought, I would. I would lean over with a golf club for him to grab on to.
When I was in an Electronics Security unit, we got to play ‘Red Team’ a few times. Usually right after we worked overseeing a security upgrade of a service center (large insurer). A real eye opener. There are few places that can’t be infiltrated if someone has the time and knowledge, maybe none.
