He’s about as wide as he is tall. I lived in his district in Manhattan when he got his start, and he would stand at the top of the subway stairs so you couldn’t get by him without shaking his hand. Well, you could if you tried, and I managed to get by without touching him because he looked like somebody whose ugliness might have been contagious.
