According to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials, the Trump administration will propose a rule Tuesday to reduce unwarranted access to food stamps, removing 3.1 million from the program and saving taxpayers $2.5 billion.
President Trump has argued that many Americans now using SNAP are not in need, given the strong economy and low unemployment.
Recommended changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) would limit access to food stamps for households with savings and other assets. The goal is to end automatic eligibility for those already collecting other federal and state assistance.
According to Reuters, the residents of 43 states automatically become eligible for food stamps via SNAP if they receive benefits from another federal program...

Some states are taking advantage of loopholes that allow people to receive the SNAP benefits who would otherwise not qualify and for which they are not entitled,...
Unfortunately, automatic eligibility has expanded to allow even millionaires and others who simply receive a TANF-funded brochure to become eligible for SNAP when they clearly dont need it,.

I never understood how stamps could fill you up anyway.
Maybe the commemorative ones.
Sorry...
This will save billions.
There’s a good chance that some, perhaps many, of the accounts being terminated are fraudulent.

Mainly Medicaid.
“This will save billions.”
Every year.
You get an Obamaphone too.
YES
You get an Obamaphone too.
Yet more LIB lunacy reined-in.
We’re doling out billions every year for social programs in the Middle East countries we’re occupying - Afghanistan and Iraq - but I never see Freepers complaining. It’s only social programs for low-income Americans, here at home, that Freepers want cut.
That wasn’t the message that got Trump elected, and I’m not sure it will get him re-elected. A big part of his winning coalition are financially struggling people in the upper Midwest. With the offshoring of manufacturing under Clinton, Bush and Obama, a lot of them may still need food stamps.
As an intake interviewer at a local food/clothing/etc. non-profit, I talk with lots of folks who are probably gonna get cut via this program. Good!!
One big scam is for Muslims to go on assistance and they send any excess money to their home countries to fund terrorism.
“One big scam is for Muslims to go on assistance and they send any excess money to their home countries to fund terrorism.”
The answer to that is to cut way back on immigration — not to cut off food stamps to low income Americans simply because they’ve managed to save $2500.
“Its only social programs for low-income Americans, here at home, that Freepers want cut.”
Geez, dogface, you’ve been around here, like forever. Aren’t you paying attention?

What exactly makes them inappropriate recipients? Are they financially comfortable but trying to game the system?
Do you have any folks who legitimately need the assistance?
And SO MUCH MORE to rein in.
I didn’t know that’s how you spelled rein :)
I would have typed reigned in lol
Amazing things you learn after SO MANY years of using the wrong word and no one correcting you :)
Arent you paying attention?
I know that literally billions of dollars in cash went missing from pallets in Iraq. The outrage around here was just barely louder than crickets.
Anything about citizenship?
Really?
Maybe you haven't been paying attention. I'll complain to anybody who will listen about spending my hard earned money on useless eaters all across the globe.
I owe nothing to foreign people, and I'm embarrassed for my own country's layabouts.
I complain about both, thank you very much.
