According to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials, the Trump administration will propose a rule Tuesday to reduce unwarranted access to food stamps, removing 3.1 million from the program and saving taxpayers $2.5 billion.
President Trump has argued that many Americans now using SNAP are not in need, given the strong economy and low unemployment.
Recommended changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) would limit access to food stamps for households with savings and other assets. The goal is to end automatic eligibility for those already collecting other federal and state assistance.
According to Reuters, the residents of 43 states automatically become eligible for food stamps via SNAP if they receive benefits from another federal program...
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said during a conference call with reporters that some state governments have misused this flexibility and...
Some states are taking advantage of loopholes that allow people to receive the SNAP benefits who would otherwise not qualify and for which they are not entitled,...
Unfortunately, automatic eligibility has expanded to allow even millionaires and others who simply receive a TANF-funded brochure to become eligible for SNAP when they clearly dont need it,.

And to boot, the man is insane and who knows what he’s capable of after this? :)
He’s DONE.
Joe is DONE.
Beto is DONE.
Pocahontas??
Who’s gonna win this hot mess??!
“I know that literally billions of dollars in cash went missing from pallets in Iraq. The outrage around here was just barely louder than crickets.”
I don’t recall hearing about that. I try to look at at least the headlines of articles posted throughout the day but that one didn’t catch my attention. When did that happen?
If they are able bodied and capable of shoveling schitt or picking strawberries then they are inappropriate recipients.
It's really very easy.
Why are you so eager to give away my money?
Sounds like Soviets.
That is how I spelled it...obviously . LOL
Use the savings on the wall.
I don’t know why I thought one would use reign in that context.
At least I know for the future :)
I don’t get it. She wants him to win?
HE.
thought it was one of his daughters lol
Just looked it up
Just google pallet of cash disappeared in Iraq.
Here’s one of many stories:

Why are you so eager to give away my money?
I used to be really fiscally conservative about spending on social programs. But then we blew $7 trillion on the insane Iraq war and other Middle East wars — and nobody around here complained. I figured if we had trillions to burn in the middle east, we could afford to be generous to poor people in America. There are a lot of them, and with inflation raging (officially it’s not, but the grocery store price tags say differently) there are a lot of people who are struggling.
A good start.
Obama’s brother is Conservative. Seems like a pretty cool guy. He’s got Barry’s “number” - mocks him constantly, thinks he’s a dishonest hustler.
Ended up earning $1943 gross in a calendar month (5 Fridays meant 3 bi-weekly paydays), went from $540 in SNAP benefits to $0 with a requirement to go through the re-application process.
‘course, if we're dropping people from the system, how about we start with families of illegals were both parents aren't here legally and all benefits stem because they've got an anchor baby in the family to attach all the benefits to?
I'm also not totally convinced at the whole asset test; went through decades of balancing my brother-in-law's bank account (Downs syndrome) to ensure it never goes over the magic $2,000; that account paid for the yearly clothes shopping, the replacement glasses, etc. If it accidentally slipped to $2,015, and it went a couple months without notice, SDI pulls back money from future checks.
Honestly, I want to see a system that goes back to the old 2:1 exchange; for every $2 earned, $1 in benefits reduced. It'll ease the landmine in monthly income, encourage people to earn more money, and eventually, save the country more money.
It’s apples and oranges. People who don’t legitimately need food stamps shouldn’t get them. As for Middle Easterners, I don’t want to spend money there either but that’s another thing.
Thanks. That article was from 2011. Apparently the crime occurred long before that. The only reason I remember what I had for breakfast yesterday is because I keep a food log.
I just get annoyed when people say FReeprs do this, or FReepers don’t do that. There are a lot of varying opinions on Free Republic. I don’t like when people generalize and group us all together like we’re one homogenous group. We’re not.
That’s cool, expect to see more of those in circulation.
Its apples and oranges.
Not the way I see it. It’s all federal money, our tax money. Yet I only hear outrage from many conservatives about spending it on Americans here are home, very little if any concern about unlimited spending on Iraqis and Afghanis, and on the radical jihadis we’re underwriting in Syria. There are even folks around here arguing for a US war on Iran, and cost is no object. But compared to what we’ve spent on those wars, the food stamp savings is less than miniscule.
I dont like when people generalize
Sometimes generalizations are accurate. I’ve lurked or posted at FreeRepublic for two decades, (lurked for the first decade), and saw next to no concern about the wasted billions in Iraq.
