Ted Cruz: Trump's chances of winning reelection are '50-50'
The Hill via MSN ^ | July 20, 2019

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said he thinks President Trump could "absolutely" be defeated in the 2020 election and predicted there could be "staggering" Democratic voter turnout.

He said in an interview with PBS's "Firing Line with Margaret Hoover" that aired Friday that he believes the presidential election will be a "coin flip" and placed Trump's reelection chances at "50-50."

Asked if Trump could be defeated, Cruz responded, "Absolutely. I personally handicap the 2020 election as a coin flip. I think it's about 50-50."

"I want to see the president reelected," he added. "And I think he certainly can get reelected. But I think we are going to see staggering Democratic turnout in 2020."

He attributed this possibly immense turnout to "anger" on the left.

"Anger is a powerful motivator," he said. "The far left is pissed. They are enraged by Donald Trump, and it means they're going to show up, and the big open question is, does everybody else show up?"

the 50 (51) individual elections for electoral votes are not all 50 - 50!

Senator Cruz hits the important point.

The far left is highly motivated.

If Conservatives become as motivated, we win.

If Conservatives become complacent, we lose.

Sen. Cruz, Republican voters are pissed too and their turnout will also be staggering. To say Trump’s chances for reelection is 50/50 is just pandering to the left wing nut jobs at PBS.

Maybe, if you look around and look at changing attitudes....I’d say that one out of every ten Hillary-voters from 2016, either will vote for Trump in 2020, or just stay home. Just in black male voting....Trump likely will double what he took in 2016. In campaign funds, they are already talking about 1-billion dollars by summer of 2020 for the Trump campaign, which he doesn’t have to spend much on primary situations. If he put out a call tomorrow that he needed 500,000 Americans to donate $100 to the campaign by next weekend...he’d get it. Show me the Democrat who has that level of dedication by voters.

No, the Democrats have been telling their base that Trump is most likely to get reelected and that is probably a contributing factor for the whole bunch going into poop flinging mode.

Our embattled President has a lot of problems to deal with but re-election is not one of them. It’s going to be a cake walk.

I agree with Cruz.....trumps in your face style motivates the opposition more than his base......if the economy stays strong there is a decent chance he rejelected...if it ranks he will be buried

I agree completely. Also, we are facing a situation in which de Tocqueville's assessment has become reality: We are finally a nation that gives free stuff away in exchange for votes.

I have lived all over the world and that, sadly, is what we stand for. We have in Ilhan Omar an actual criminal freeloader with as many as 8 counts of perjury against her, and she is a lawmaker.

Blue state people move to red states for jobs, then vote those states into oblivion.

We have convinced our blacks not to work.

Our rainbow flags - at our embassies all over the world (Benghazi...) - Tell foreigners we are godless sissies.

Our visa offices and embassies are populated by twenty-somethings who want to "change the world" by providing access to free services for anyone who checks the "refugee" box.

As Joseph Farah once said, we are increasingly fat, dumb, immoral, and stupid. It happened to Rome. Why not to us?

Ted ought to STFU and step up to help reelect PDJT and also support his fellow Texas Senator Cornyn next year.

Last I heard, it looks like Beto is thinking about waging a challenge to unseat Cornyn, especially since his own run for the presidency is faltering.

Thank God, Trump won instead of just another typical politician like Cruz.

His speaking voice stinks. He should hire a voice coach. And some of his moves are politically tone-deaf. Can an old dog learn new tricks? We’ll see soon enough. I can’t imagine him sticking around in the Senate if he’s not thinking of making another run at the White House. His problem is his political tone-deafness. What he has going for him is that he doesn’t fill liberals with white-hot anger the way Trump does, i.e. liberal turnout is likely to be lower if he runs. His problem is he turns conservatives off. He had a victory margin 11 points lower than Abbott’s on the same ballot in 2018. That’s quite an achievement, and not in a good way.

There is nobody in that pack of Demonrat candidate losers that has a snow cone’s chance in hell of beating him.

The left is motivated and controls the big cities in each state and the vote count in those cities. In Florida they lost in 2018 only due to incompetent fraudulence.

PS I was a big Cruz supporter and donated heavily to his campaign but was a little creeped out by the Amanda Carpenter thing. And... What’s with the beard? Jeez.

Trump supporters are pretty pissed as well and I expect them to show up in droves. The deciding factor will be the non-aligned votes. How many will show up and who will they go with?

If the Dems think they will cruise to victory with whoever they pick, they will pick the looniest one and get all overconfident. If the Dems think they will lose they go into poop flinging mode. You really can’t win either way, and I think they have created a massive mental health crisis.

We certainly don't want conservatives to stay home because Trump is a shoo-in. If his chances are anything less than 90%, 50-50 is the best assumption to work with.

Hoping future indictments will make a difference in his is approval numbers -- running against the party of traitors and pedophiles.
