Whether by accident or by design, President Trump has alighted upon the exact right solution for ascertaining the truest enumeration of American citizens. Not only that, but his workaround solution should have been done regardless of the recent opinion by the Supreme Court. That is, even if the Court had found that the administration could include the citizenship question in the census, Trump should still have directed his agencies, especially the Social Security Administration, to have their computer programmers write simple little programs to count up the people on their databases by citizen and all other categories.
Americans who care about citizenship or just the corruption of our data should rejoice over Pres. Trumps announcement on July 11. And heres whats nifty about the presidents directive -- we dont need to wait for 2020 to get a much better idea of how many citizens are in the country, we should be able to get that data very soon. One datum Im anxious to learn is the number of U.S. citizens still residing in California, the state with the largest number of illegal aliens.
Americans are a highly mobile lot, and for quite some time now theyve been fleeing California and New York for other states because of high taxes, cost of living, and undesirableness. Wouldnt it be a kicker if Trumps computer reports showed that those states are overrepresented in Congress? But heres the real question for America: Should we be counting noncitizens to determine the number of congressional districts in the states? This citizen thinks not.

If you wrote all individual names, with the street address...then you’d write the code to compare with social security info, and have a US citizen list, and all ‘others’. Course, in this effort, you might find 100,000 individuals that come up twice and that will invite some kind of investigation over non-citizens using aliases or dual SSN info. If you ask me, because of this discrepancy, you’d be adding six to twelve months onto the Census, before you could stamp the info somewhat valid.
Whatever happens in the courts, President Trump keeps the issue front and center for the 2020 election, and it’s a political winner for him and us.
Wouldn’t the citizenship question be answered by all men registering on their eighteen birthday for Selective Service? That would take care of about half the population. Or is that still done?
Trump needs to increase immigration enforcement during the census and just prior to the election.
I’ve heard that a big number of males are neglecting to register for Selective Service nowadays. That requirement is simply off their radar. And there are never any legal penalties assigned to those who fail to register.
yes - it’s still done. HS counselors remind juniors/seniors of their duty - boys only still, I think.
There are many interesting database queries that should be run on an ongoing basis that would yield very interesting information about many different kinds of fraud. All of which should be investigated and prosecuted. Staff to do this would be easily funded through the reduction in fraud. Any real business would be doing this and would be money way ahead for doing so.
Non-citizen permanent residents are also required to register for Selective Service.
Knowing the actual numbers of illegal immigrants in the country would certainly have a shock value and would give President Trump more political ammunition to toughen the laws assuming he wins a second term and takes back the House. The real challenge is to get states like California to enforce voter id laws and block the ballot harvesting scam that is illegal in almost every other state.
We know they are over represented in Congress, cause they over represent themselves in every fashion imaginable, and then some.
I don’t know about NY, but California has been bleeding/losing legal citizens for 3-5 years.
Anyone/families making less than 125K per year can’t afford to live or move here.
If it wasn’t for illegals flooding in, California would have lost some congressits due to people leaving here.
It’s like President Trump said...even when he didn’t make the promise...he is keeping it!
Loved when he said that.
Will they act on the data? Already IRS does not turn over names , work addresses of illegals falsely using SSN, will this change. ICE could just start rounding them up. And by the way, any families deported yet? I think not since no screaming or sob stories in the media. Another failed action, talk only.
The Government can use all its data to give a reasonable estimate of citizens in a geographic area. It may fluctuate somewhat, but I will call it Static X. California will be determined to have a population of Static X, but here is where the fight is all about. Because California also has a population of Non Citizens, which is not static. I call that Y (Upward/Increasing).
The Government can determine that California has X amount of citizens, therefore is should have X amount of representation.
California will be forced to argue that it has X amount of citizens, but it also has Y, and it is therefore entitled to a greater amount of political representation.
If ultimately, the courts agree with California then the result will be that Sanctuary States will get a stranglehold on political power because they will always be able to use the number of X, plus an ever upward/increasing number of Y. And in my humble opinion, that is despicable.

In Los Angeles County alone, I have seen projections that if Congressional Districts were actually apportioned solely on citizens counted in the Census, that that county would loose as many as SIX CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS, ( and if we were really lucky, one of them that would go away would be Adam Schiff’s)!
But isn’t the question “are you a citizen?” Asked?
But will the data that Trump gathers be used to determine congressional representation? I don’t think so, so it’s rather useless.

It’s been closer to 10 years.
Frequent road trips on 1-10

I witnessed many a U-Haul with
California plates headed east.
