Scherie Murray, a Jamaican-born woman who grew up in Queens and founded a TV production and advertising company, plans to run for the congressional seat held by Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, according to a report.
There is a crisis in Queens, and its called AOC, Murray, 38, told Fox News. And instead of focusing on us, shes focusing on being famous. Mainly rolling back progress and authoring the job-killing Green New Deal and killing the Amazon New York deal.
The Republican, who moved to the US when she was 9, slams the New York progressive darling in an introductory video.
Your representative in Washington chooses self-promotion over service, conflict over constituents, resistance over assistance, Murray says in the video.
Queens and the Bronx needs someone who will create jobs instead of turning them away.
Asked about AOCs brand of Democratic socialism, Murray told Fox News: I think its far, far to the left and it is not connecting with everyday Americans.
As for Medicare-for-all, which Ocasio-Cortez, 29, has backed, Murray said: Medicare-for-all, I think a lot of people are happy with their current health insurance.
And on the Green New Deal, the climate change plan championed by AOC, she said: We know that it certainly will kill jobs.
Murray joins four other Republicans former cop John Cummings, journalist Ruth Papazian, construction contractor Miguel Hernandez and businessman Antoine Tucker who have filed to run for her seat.
So far, no Democrats have announced a primary challenge to Ocasio-Cortez, who shocked the Democratic Party establishment in 2018 by toppling Rep. Joe Crowley in a primary.
Murray, a full-time mom who worked for the citys Jamaica Bus Depot as a teen, founded a TV production and advertising company called The Esemel Group in 2004.

I just donated $20 to her efforts.
All these people running for the GOP nomination - who is going to challenge AOC in the Dem primary? That district is over D+20 it will be uphill for any GOP candidate to win, but if one does that will say a lot about AOC and the hard left turn the D party has made.
Seems like a long shot but stranger things have happened.
I wish her luck.
This means that Occasional Cortex is anti-black and anti-immigrant.
What you said.
Even if its a low turnout district for primaries (which is how the Justice Democrats got AOC in), the turnout will be higher for the actual election, and D+20 will be hard to overcome. The Dems will pour money into the district to keep the seat, even as the power struggle within the party continues.
>> D+20
Still worth a try.
d+20 is a wet dream. the 14th CD is more like d+60.
spend your money on a campaign where it would do some good; pick a trump district from 2016 that flipped in 2018. that’s at least sane.
It's worth a shot, plus they are less hypnotized and mesmerized by the D next to a person's name than are black Americans.
Jamaicans tend to be hard workers, remember the “Hey Mon!” skit from “In Living Color” (”What you mean you only got one job!”)

Stigall goes one-on-one with Scherie Murray - a millennial, black mother in New York whos strongly rumored to be interested in taking on Representative Occsasio-Cortez for New Yorks 14th Congressional District. How will she battle the queen of social media? What are constituents in the district saying about their current representation? Did the Amazon pullout make folks as angry as we read? What issues do her potential voters really care about? Is Trump a racist? Is the country? Could she REALLY beat A.O.C? Meet Ms. Murray and decide for yourself. Youll be hearing more about her soon, we suspect.
They will denounce her because they can get away with it, at that point it doesn’t matter if she’s a women, black or from a family of immigrants she’s a republican!
