Personally, I prefer ‘The Squat’ to ‘The Squad’, and will refer to them as such. ‘The SQUAT’, as in ‘diddly squat’ in reference to their intelligence and accomplishments.

The first time I heard the name on the news, I actually did think they called the "squat". But love your take on it with "diddly squat". I'll remember that one. :-)
