[But private security might be just the thing to deal with stealthy saboteurs.]

The issue isn’t the saboteurs - it’s the on-call cruise missiles they can bring to bear. Just like the Russian mercenaries in Syria discovered that the small band of American advisers they were about to overrun weren’t alone.

“Best take care of her before she wears a special kind of “belt” into the House.”

Damn! I never thought of that.

So far the issue is saboteurs.

I’d say private security fits that bill nicely.

If the sitch deteriorates exponentially, then pull the private security, provide military escort, then rain heck on whomever is causing the problem.

“Armed guards are not the solution – all you need are more eyes and ears looking at all sides of the ship especially the rear when passing through those waters.”

You mean kinda like the nobama era 'see sumtin, say sumtin' edict that when it was actually used ended up getting the person reporting in trouble because it was usually reporting minorities ?

Does whoever wrote the warning think the armed guards are kept in a locker somewhere below deck? How about armed guards watching all sides of the ship, especially the rear, all the time, armed and ready to pop anyone who approaches?

I wonder how much it would cost to put 57mm Bofors guns front and back.

Maybe a dozen men armed with FALs, and a couple with Barret semi auto 50 cal.

Still wouldn’t be enough if the Iranians got serious but it would probably stop those fast boats.

Make it really worthwhile:

10,000 $’s for each dead, tagged and bagged terrorist!

100,000 $’s for each ship/boat whatever the dead scum rode in!

Iranian frustration is escalating daily. Sanctions, ruinous inflation, food shortages and Arab oil passing freely under their nose through the Strait of Hormuz while they can’t sell their own oil. Its only a matter of time before some Revolutionary Guard junior officer does a rash act and starts a conflagration. Also the Captains of these tankers are no fools. The Iranians have a history of violating international law and taking hostages. If they attack the wrong boat suspect despite what this association recommends, there will be armed resistance.

My nephew was a Sniper School Instructor with three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. When he left the Army, he formed a company to provide armed security in the Indian Ocean for protection from Somali pirates. They were very successful.

Doing the same thing in he Persian Gulf is an entirely kettle of fish as explained in the aritcle. Using private security forces against Iranian organized military forces in those waters is beyond foolish, like sending mercenaries up against the Waffen SS. When you are considering using deadly force, you have to understand your limitations and the capabilities of your adversary. This fight is one for the big boys.

These aren’t pirates, they are countries. Particularly Iran.
This is a huge problem now. A private security force might not be effective anyway.

100,000 for the mother ship that holds the inflatable boats they use.

Why not hire a Q-ship?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q-ship

Rig a heavily armored but unimpressive looking ship with all kinds of concealed weapons, then when the dirt bags attempt to hijack it, jam their radios and sink them all. You can’t use it too many times in the same place, so if at all possible, use it to take out an Iranian submarine or two.

I’ve been an advocate of that for a long time.

Maybe even a couple of helo’s, like OH-6 with twin miniguns for extra effect. I know it takes a little bit to get them warmed-up enough to fly, though.

On my shrimp boat, the radar picks up small rowboats with only enough room for two men, so I would imagine large ships can also detect small craft. If two boats are close enough together, they will appear as one radar contact

We can count on Joe Biden to arm each ship with a double-barrel shotgun.

Then you'd have to install balconies on every ship. Cost prohibitive.
