President Trump will announce that he will use executive action to add a citizenship question on the 2020 census at a news conference Thursday afternoon, a White House source confirmed to The Post.
The president tweeted that he would address the controversial question in a tweet Thursday morning days after he signaled he was considering using an executive order to include it.
“The White House will be hosting a very big and very important Social Media Summit today. Would I have become President without Social Media??,” Trump said on Twitter. “Yes (probably)! At its conclusion, we will all go to the beautiful Rose Garden for a News Conference on the Census and Citizenship.?”
?Trump brought up the idea that he would include the question using an executive order after the Supreme Court blocked it from next year’s count. ? ??”We’ll see what happens,” ?the president said at the White House last Friday. “We could also add an addition on. So we could start the printing now and maybe do an addendum after we get a positive decision. So we’re working on a lot of things, including an executive order.

Is this part 1 of a two part solution, where if he get enjoined by some dopey judge (as is inevitable) then another approach will be used, per AG Barr’s comment? Or was Barr referring to an EO?

There is a judge in a liberal circuit that already had the stay written.
Absolutely nothing unconstitutional about having a citizxen/alien question on the census. Violates no one.

Go figure...when the Census is asking how many TOILETS are in your house and all of the other nosy invasive questions yet cannot ask if the PEOPLE being counted are CITIZENS...

little federal judge will stomp his feet and place on injunction on it. Then months of appeals and delays for new evidence by other side. Then months more to go on SCOTUS long range plans. Then SCOTUS on long vacation. Then a wimpy Roberts and Kavanaugh “well,sort of, I guess, but we don’t mean this is a a decision, we suppose....” answer.
Yes, it is simply putting it back into the census, it was removed by Obama.

The SC actually explained that they are now in the business of interpreting intent and inferring racism.
When Obama took it off, did anyone sue?
It could easily be inferred (if a court chose to do, because we have no constitution anymore) that Obama wanted to help remove the ability to survey our own sovereignty and ruled against him. Not sure if anyone even challenged it though

If that’s true, send the US Marshals to arrest and detain him. This $hit’s got to stop! If the GD Republicans had been doing their jobs when they were in control of the House, this would not be a problem today. They should have been deleting courts and their judges which is their Constitutional prerogative.

I like that Trump is trying here but, strategically, I don’t think this works because the left will just take it back to the courts again and drag it out until the census MUST be printed.
He doesn’t. This is purely a matter for the Executive branch; the Constitution gives zero power to the Judicial branch over the census.
At some point, some President is going to need to put his foot down and tell the Judicial branch to mind its own business, though that would instigate a “Constitutional crisis”, since the SC has been getting away with pretending it is a superior rather than co-equal branch for so long. If Trump isn’t the one that has the stones to do it, I don’t know who will be.
if the fact that it is Obama who removed it were broadcast loud and clear there should be no obstacle to Trump replacing it onto the census. But all we hear is silence!!
If President Trump cites Amendment 14 Section 2 as the authority for his EO, then he can argue that a federal judge has no say because those courts are the creation of Congress and are inferior to the Constitution.
It would be different if Trump cited a federal law passed by Congress. That would put the lower courts on equal footing.
