Orange Police Department investigates report that a man was punched by a driver dragging an American flag attached to his car
ORANGE Police in Orange are in the process of finalizing an arrest warrant for a man involved with a viral social media post.
A picture posted on Facebook shows an American flag dragged from the back of a car.
The man who posted it claims that he wanted to point it out to the driver.
That's when, he says, the driver sucker punched him.
KFDM/Fox 4's Chris Mullooly reports that alleged act of violence has turned to more than just a cry for justice.
Capt. Robert Enmon with the Orange Police Department says the social media comments have become racial.
Some want harsh crimes for the man who was dragging the flag and is accused of assaulting the other man.
Others say the story the purported victim is claiming isn't true and that he should have been minding his own business.

An American flag being dragged behind a car is considered to be the trigger of an assault on the Fourth of July.
A 39-year-old Nederland man is in a hospital with a broken jaw after he said he was punched in the Home Depot parking lot Thursday.
Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the 46-year-old suspect who lives in Houston has called police and told them he was protecting his property.
The assault is also being played out on Facebook as the victim posted about his encounter and the suspect has responded.
Enmon said police have gotten surveillance video from the Home Depot store on Strickland Drive. Investigators were in Beaumont Friday morning to interview the victim at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
No arrest had been made as of Friday morning.
Enmon said he was not releasing the names of the victim and the suspect.
The patrol officers initial report also does not list the names, but says the call came at 11 a.m. Thursday.
The victim on Facebook identified himself as Brandon Scott of Nederland.
In the Facebook post, Scott said he saw a car draggin what I thought was a sign down MLK in Orange.
He said he followed the car and when it pulled into the Home Depot parking lot, he stopped to tell the driver about the object.
As he drives approaching me, I get out and wave him down, hey man, youre dragging something behind you, Scott wrote on Facebook.
As I approach the back of his car to help him remove, I see its an American flag.
Im squatting down and turn to let him know and thats where he cheap shots me in the jaw and drives off.
A good citizen follows and gets the license plate.
All of this while my son is in the car.
Terrance Watson replied on Scotts Facebook and contends Scott blocked his car in and then tried to jerk off the flag and his tailpipe.
He said he feared for his life and was protecting his property.

Terrance Watson, the flag-dragger, is lucky that he didn't punch a Special Forces Operator.
I wonder how that would have turned out ... if he had ?

I lived in Orange for 2 years in late 60’s. At that time, he wouldn’t have gotten out of his driveway, dragging the flag. Too many good old boys.

Some want harsh crimes for the man who was dragging the flag Harsh crimes for him, huh?

I’d say the punishment should fit the crime. Drag the perp behind a car for a mile or two. If he lives maybe he will have learned a nice life lesson as he heals up for the next year or two.

Driver was trolling with bait. He was hoping for a confrontation in his fancy car. Cant go round hitting people for no reason at all. Hope they throw the book at him for assault and battery.

Never mind. There are probably hundreds of Terrence Watsons in that area.

The clouds of war are gathering. Yep. The ability to coexist with the radicalized domestic terrorist left is reaching the end of the line. Soon it will be them or us who live. I choose us.

I lived in Beaumont when I was in the 8th grade. We had a friend who was 18 who could drive into Louisiana and legally buy beer. It wasn’t legal for him to let teenage friends in Texas drink it but who knew.
