Make no mistake. Any one of the Democrats can beat Trump if his campaign screws it up and theirs doesn’t. The secret is not to do that, to get the base out in huge numbers because the Democrat base will be, and to attract enough undeclared voters to take Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania again.
Biden or any Dem has the possibility of beating Trump. It is a matter of changing demographics. The Dem candidate has received more popular votes than the Rep in 6 out of the last 7 elections. The Dem candidate starts out electorally with many more assured votes than the Reps. The 2020 election will be close regardless of whom the Dems nominate.
The reason why the DNC may want a safe, soft, generic, slightly awkward old white candidate because they are calculating that any democrat is going to get a block of 40 to 45% of the population no matter who runs, based on the anti-Trump hysteria that the media has so patiently constructed over 3 years, and the safe candidate is more likely to pull in the needed moderate-independents that will put them over the top. A hardcore socialist is a bigger risk.
I still don’t think Biden would even get the nomination. I don’t know what reforms the DNC made since they got caught rigging the primaries last time, but I assume their control is more underground and stealthy than last time, and perhaps not as effective. The hard left have the loudest voice. But can they win primaries? If it’s a large field, I think they can.

I don’t believe Biden can win the primaries - but if he does, he starts out with NY and CA in his pocket.
I think that any of the top tier candidates could win. The Left is attempting a hostile takeover of the party and a Biden candidacy would force a head to head comparison of the Obama administration vs the Trump administration. It would deny the Left the ability to run a completely fact-free campaign. It also comes with a huge messaging win for Trump baked in. With the steady stream of fake news the Democrats have a polling advantage overall and Biden has a slight edge over the other candidates in a theoretical head to head against Trump. But, my suspicion is that being able to run against the Obama economy after two years of the Trump economy is a bad bargain for Democrats, especially when Barr starts handing down indictments. Biden is the only one with total exposure. The rest will run on fairy dust and happy talk. The public is in the mood for happy talk after so much negativity from the press.

Biden struggles to get out a single coherent sentence, and even with that he sounds demented. He has zero chance of even getting his party nomination unless the entire establishment Dem party backs him. In its current state I suspect the socialist progressives will no allow it.
