At least 20 people were hospitalized Saturday, including two in critical condition, after a gas explosion shattered parts of a shopping mall in the South Florida city of Plantation, authorities said.
Firefighters were searching for other injured people but believe all have been taken for treatment, said Plantation Fire Department deputy chief Joel Gordon.
News footage and social media video showed firefighters arriving at the mall. Windows were blown out of an LA Fitness. A section of the complex appeared to sustain significant damage, with shattered windows and scattered debris.

I think this mall was shuttered for a few years. The big chain stores started closing and the smaller tenants went down like dominoes.

The race-baitors will have a field day with this. By summer’s end there will be street protests, op-ed pieces in local and national newspapers, intellectual giants like aoc and omar will shed tears at the gall to name a place Plantation.
By Christmas the local government will vote to change the name. Just watch.

The city was founded back in the late 50s or early 60s as an upper middle class suburb of Ft. Lauderdale. Although there are still some nice neighborhoods the city has a large black population around the U.S. 441 corridor and is near the two Caribbean immigrant towns of Lauderhill and Lauderdale Lakes. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if some day the city changes its name.

Reportedly a lot of old K-Marts were appropriated by pushers to create/store their product until the authorities got wise.

It isn’t a mall - it’s a strip shopping center. There’s a Publix across the parking lot; the LA Fitness and some other stuff along the back of the lot, and then the strip where the store blew up facing the Publix and at right angles to the LA fitness.
Is Wilton Manor still there, or did they rename it Rainbow village?

Grew up there. Agreed. City will change its name to Lillypad, or some such nonsense.
Too many stupid oversensitive white middle class women not to. Great place. 4 golf courses between 441 and 75. But they don’t know what to do with it.
I was wrong about the location. It’s on University but between Broward Blvd. and Peters Rd. I was thinking of a different mall. I think it was called the Plantation Fashion Mall.
