If you don’t discuss politics at all—and just listen to what those around you are saying—you will find that almost no-one else pays any attention to it.

That is easy to forget—most people are busy just living their lives and just don’t care about public policy stuff unless it is in their face and affects them personally and directly.

This is the key section - this is not shocking at all but it gets little airtime:

Compared with the rest of the (nationally representative) polling sample, progressive activists are much more likely to be rich, highly educated—and white. They are nearly twice as likely as the average to make more than $100,000 a year. They are nearly three times as likely to have a postgraduate degree. And while 12 percent of the overall sample in the study is African American, only 3 percent of progressive activists are. With the exception of the small tribe of devoted conservatives, progressive activists are the most racially homogeneous group in the country.

Exactly - that's why so many people either don't bother to vote or vote for the incumbent when things are going OK, and then vote against the incumbent (regardless of party) during a recession. Ideology or specific issues have little if anything to do with it.

So true. I get along with my neighbors who I know are mostly libs. A bit more live and let live and a bit less social media or MSM propagandizing divisions makes for a better life.

I think you are totality mistaken about politics in America in 2019. America is hyper politicized. We live in fascist PC cultural milieu and a time of no freedom speech for anyone not "woke" i.e. leftist.

I don't discuss politics in public with anyone unless I know them very well because the risk/reward analysis always falls into too much risk and no reward.

We discuss politics in the voting booth.

We The People won’t sit idly by while the Marxist Left attempt to destroy our country and enslave the American people. For the Left it’s all about power over each of us. They want the power to decide who lives and who dies by their dictate. Don’t for a minute believe otherwise. What do you think will happen when Big Bro, the Left, decides who gets medical and at what age?

Yes, it is that serious. 2020 is a reckoning.

BINGO! I point this out quite often to relatives and friends, and it’s the one thing that always brightens my spirit and gives me hope that the loonies are tuned out by the vast majority of Americans. Now I’m going out to hoist my beautiful 3’x5’ TRUMP 2020 KEEP AMERICA GREAT flag!

People care about politics when it negatively effects them ... like what is happening now. That people only care about 'food on their own table’ is crap AND it's a current liberal talking point- - gleamed from a focus group somewhere in “Kansas”..
