For most Americans, the census is something none of us really think about, for good reason.
It doesnt come around but once every ten years, and then its gone again. Besides a few stories on the changing demographics of the country, and possible changes in the number of representatives any given state is allotted, the census is usually in the back of many peoples minds.
That, however, changed with the arrival of the Trump administration. Seemingly out of nowhere it was announced the 2020 Census would be modified in a simultaneously subtle and monumental fashion. Wilbur Ross, the Secretary of Commerce, announced in 2018 the next census would include a question asking for respondents citizenship status. Almost immediately the potential question was met with a bevy of criticism, support and lawsuits. Opinion
Those lawsuits culminated last week in the Supreme Court handing down a decision in the citizenship census case.
States with heavy immigrant populations, which also coincidentally happen to be strongholds for the Democratic Party, would likely lose seats in Congress, funding, and a host of other things as a result of their official population lowering.
The fear, by many immigrants, is certainly well founded, considering the president of the United States opened his campaign with violently racist remarks against immigrants, and his administration has made it a point to manufacture a humanitarian crisis on the southern border.

The author is taking a strong “death to America” position.
Do you feel the appropriate level of guilt yet white people?
Unless I’m mistaken, at the writing of the Constitution the slaves that were counted may not have been citizens, but they were legal residents of the United States.
From the revolution, to today. Democrats are always desperate to count/exploit their cheap human labor force to gain political power in the Congress.
Sick
Liberals are really stupid and uneducated. The entire 3/5 of a person written into the constitution was a compromise which increased the representation from Demonrat (slave) states out of proportion compared to the number of actual citizens.
By counting illegals, the old Demonrats are up to the same nonsense, just using different terms. Counting illegals distorts the count and dilutes the representation and votes of true citizens.
Illegals should only count 3/5ths. I heard of a compromise like that once.
So much to debunk in this article, but I haven’t the time so I’ll go for low hanging fruit.
1. It became a “thing” not because of Trump, but because the left fought him on it.
2. The question was there for a long time. Trump just wanted to put it back. Duh.
Leftists never cease to amaze. Their chief weapons are:
Ad hominem attack
Deflection
Projection
When our country started, there was no such thing as an illegal alien. People were landing every day. Some became citizens. Some did not. There were indeed open borders...until we wrote some immigration laws.....which I think began after the Civil War.
This writeup is a mashup of lies.
The census has had a citizenship question for 220 years except for 2010 when Obama ordered Rahm Emanuel to take charge of the census and delete the citizenship question so that millions of illegals could be counted for apportionment of representatives to Congress.
The census was split in 1965 into a short form and a long from. The citizenship question stayed on the long form.
Leftist liars will say the citizenship question hasn’t appeared since 1960, that it was taken off in 1965. That’s because it was made part of the long form.
Oh, bull crap. The census is used for determining many things that are funded by our tax dollars. If you have nothing in the game, why should you have any say in how that money is spent?
And back then the slaves couldn't vote. So that increased the representative power per 1,000 votes. Much like today where high immigration states have a higher representative power per 1,000 votes (assuming immigrants aren't allowed to vote in federal elections).
And fanatical devotion to Karl Marx.
BRING OUT THE SOFT CUSHIONS!
“Democrats are always desperate to count/exploit their cheap human labor force to gain political power in the Congress.”
I think that meme about cheap labor needs to be retired. There are only so many openings for grass cutters, etc. What the democrats are after is political power, only political power, and they want voters, not workers.
I give the left credit for never giving up,shaping and rolling their ideas like turds and calling them Bonbons to the mostly idiotic public.
RE: Why we count people, not citizens
Why can’t we count BOTH to get an accurate picture of who are living here?
So... foreign diplomats in the areas surrounding DC increase the representation of those areas? Foreign travelers to Disney World increase the representation for that part of Florida? If we recognized this invasion for what it is... we should increase the representation of areas that have been invaded?
This argument is nonsense. The census determines representation in the halls of government. No party should represent anyone but their own citizens.
“””Seemingly out of nowhere it was announced the 2020 Census would be modified”””
Since 1800 there have been 21 census.
Does anyone know how many of those 21 census asked the residents in the USA about their citizenship?
It is my guess that most of the census did ask the question and it was only recently that the question was no longer asked.
We still have SLAVERY??? WOW!
